From my tests I don't think its all that. I don't think we are very good tanks. I tried about every combination of a melee template I could think of and still do not last to long. Either jedi are to powerful, can't seem to keep up with healing, or just dont seem to do enough damage. Whats your guys takes on this just sort of curious. I seem to have done better myself with carbines/ cm.....

Well, you'll find out Wed as that's when this horror goes live for your server, bugs and all. Thanks to the pikeman community for all the help and info throughout the past year and a half. This profession's forum is indeed one of the best. Proud to be a Master Pikeman for as long as I can remember. Hate to leave but SOE has left little choice. I love the game that used to be SWG. Good luck to those sticking it out. Have fun testing the CU on the live servers.

P.S. Oh, and Einhinder, anything that is not pure combat will suck. Just an FYI. Take care.

Wow. Be whatever you want and have fun with it. If you don't like it, change it. It's a game. The "end-is-near, raving lunatic" style panicking needs to end.

You know, I've read allot of your posts and think you should take a little of your own advice (edited as to fit your mindset)... if you love the game so much, go play it. People pay money to subscribe to this game and the forums are an extention. Therefore, they have every right to post as they see fit, as long as it stays within the forum guidelines. Some people don't like the CU and yes, sad as it may seem to you, they feel that the end is indeed here. Maybe the CU is the best thing since Ep. 1 & 2 in your rolling eyes but for many, myself included, it's the end of a great ride and one that ended too soon. The game they love, spent RL money on and logged countless hours playing is going away. But, your happy and that's all that matters I guess. I really didn't want to turn this into a pro/anti CU thing so I'll end there. Basically just came in here to give a little thanks to Pikeman forums and to give *MY* impressions to someone who asked for them. I do agree with you though Iridescence, be what you want profession-wise. Post-CU it's going to be tough to be noncombat in my opinion but maybe you'll do well with it.
Oh, Iridescence, a little free advice before I walk off into the sunset: be careful up on that high horse of yours, it's a long ways down. Don't feel the need to reply on my account, I won't be reading it.
Thanks again guys and girls of the forums (Pikeman in particular). It was fun while it lasted.

After speaking with many of my friends that are testing on TC and reading alot of posts, I would say, hands down, melee my not be wise for your prime choice. A pure melee class like alot of us want to use will be great for PvE I heard, but when it comes to anything else, we are not that good.
Ifour opponents are close, we will be very good combatants. But as far as tank and damage modes, I have gotten conflicting reports. It seems ranged professions will be the FOTM in the CU. Pistoleers will be rooting and intiminating people like crazy! Ranged professions will eliminate melee opponents fast with the new working root and snare assaults.
Unsure why DEVS are telling us to mix melee classes together for better results when a ranged profession is going to hurt us bad. As for pikeman, I have not really heard anything good on us being the second best tank. I heardour area sweep is good but we still dish out so so damage. Sword dishes out alot of damage with armor break it seems. TK is a great tank I heard, unsure how well being a TK 4000 will help if you use power boost.
Has anyone used Master brawlerfor the new moves...will the return damage ability help verse ranged attacks?
So, if pure melee seems to not work in the PvP realm. What choices of ranged/melee combo's has anyone had good tests with. Heard Commando could area snare.
Only problem I could see with mixing melee and ranged is the weapon switch times. Has anyone tested using an area cone snare from ranged then running in to area sweep with melee?
I am worried about this CU. Seems all we will see in battle is: stop drop stop drop stop drop...root, snare...blood stain.
Advice?

Think base defence and closed combat situations, proper use of terrain LOS is key in the feild.

Fencer, a few lines in this and you get your own snare abilities, fencer also carrys the improved lunge I belive. Pistoleers are not the problem to a melee profession at all, you need to really worry about the riflemen carrying a couple pistoleer lines.

Be very exact in the manner with which you stack your template, master pike/master swords is the best mix, throw in master brawler and fill the rest in with defensive and special state lines from TK and fencer. Most melee stackers were carrying pikes. Remember you can use armor break, critical strike etc with your polearm.

From what I understand the defensive stance is absolutely necissary in tanking high levels, I do not belive it returns damage on ranged attacks, yet the main focus of the stance is not for damage it is for defence.
So, if pure melee seems to not work in the PvP realm. What choices of ranged/melee combo's has anyone had good tests with. Heard Commando could area snare.
Commando alone has no specials. The flamethrower is inherently AoE however, thus combining commando with pistoller or carbines allows a stopping shot/cripple shot (respectively) to be fired with an AoE effect. The state applied does translate over. HOWEVER, every single commando on TC that I witnessed employing this tactic of running in range with a torch to root multiple players died before he returned back to his lines.
There ware a couple bases that the imperials had placed outside of AH which was used for extensive battles. Turrets (somewhat unbalanced and still prone to the fast shot when controlled) we avoided like the plauge for the most part, but still pushed apon. We would line up along a ridge that was inside 70m of the base, pop our heads up and open fire before retreating back to the cover of the ridge. The imps got wise and stationed melee troops in that line, which could not be seen for the most part outside of the cover, riflemen covered the approach to the ridge and we completely lost that ability to utilize that zone of cover, those that did attempt to get in were shot and rooted on approach or cut up by the melee folks on arrival.
Only problem I could see with mixing melee and ranged is the weapon switch times. Has anyone tested using an area cone snare from ranged then running in to area sweep with melee?
Weapon switches are dependant on your timers, there is no actual delay in switching atm save for if you have attacks cued, or your abilities are cooling down. If you are about to switch weapons simply remove your auto attack key and switch, at the end of your last specials cooldown you will switch weapons.
I am worried about this CU. Seems all we will see in battle is: stop drop stop drop stop drop...root, snare...blood stain.
I think there needs to be someway to counter a root, but, in a large battle it makes less of an effect. Each particular group will need to do all it can to focus firepower, with able medics anyone rooted can be kept alive while the rest of the squad closes in to KD, damage, disrupt, and break the lines. Don't be so worried about PvP in the CU, thats the shining hope of all this, PvE and our crafters are what you need to worry about.
Advice?

Hehe, sorry.. I didn't mean you. I was speaking on general terms. The CU, even after extensive testing on my part, never made me want to quit. There are things I hate about it myself as well.. but ugh, the way the people are reacting is what makes me want to quit. Logged on yesterday to find (yes, literally) over 100 people in Theed on Radiant, spamming constantly, wrecking speeders, doing massive Launcher Pistol duels, spamming insults and nasty things at a CSR who was nearby (as if the poor guy had anything to do with the CU), and trying to crash the server. While the CU itself doesn't make me want to quit, seeing things like that do. People are going absolutely nuts, very needlessly if you ask me.
If you like dancer, keep it. Definitely. The point of the CU is that we fight in groups now. People are saying combat professions cannot stand on their own right now in the CU because they're still used to being able to solo everything.
(Long story short, the people spamming in Theed were all booted into space by the CSR
