Thread: A question about melee...

Ok. So right now, I'm a TKM/Master Pike/Novice Doc (going for 4xxx), and I love to solo. From what I can tell, this is a pretty damn good template to solo with, and so far, I have been correct. Not two days ago, I was literally walking through the Geo Lab with no fear of death at all (a big change from when I played before...been away for about 9 months). But then I'm looking at the higher end game stuff, NK, the Katarn, etc, in the Game Guides and continuously see that ranged pro's can easily solo this stuff. A Master Rifles/Master Smuggler can apparently just take his sweet time with Roots and Snares and pick away at them till kingdom come. Now, I realize that if those roots wear off, and the mob closes in, they're done for, but if well timed, that hardly happens. I also realize the with CoB and my innate armor,improved intimidate,they won't be doing much damage to me, but that hardly stands up to someone who doesn't have to worry about it because the mob is rooted,or even kited.To get to my point, what is the advantage of being melee? Specifically for solo players? I mean, don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my template, but it just seems to disadvantagous to be melee. I'm not saying nerf the rifleman, I'm just wondering if I am living a fantasy, and should just bite the bullet and respec....whadda ya think, MBH/MSmuggler/a little rifle or pistol thrown in for good measure?

Ok ill tell you the obvious advantages and disadvantages
Ranged
Advantages
1. You can vitually kill anything without being touched
2.Pvp wise you can beat a good portion of people
3. Mostly will never die when it comes to group activities

Disadvantages
1. Anything gets near you, you will get eaten alive
2.Jedi mostly will pwn you pvp
3. Your root shot is bound to be nerfed..lol
Melee
Advantages
1. ITS FUN! ...i mean who wants to spam shots all day when you can be in its face!
2. You have the attack power and many optional choices when it comes to pvp
3. You dont have to wear armor ...tk
Disadvantages
1. Alot more prone to be killed
2. Action will be run down quickly, pikeman wise
3. Wont be able to get the running spammers
Kindof broad.. but oh well.. trying to help! Um melee is just so great in general i mean it really depends on what you wanna do. If you wanna have a good experience in the game and not go through it having to stay back and watch the real fights while you shoot bullets at the target then stay melee you will have more fun. Ranged just seems to suck the fun out of the game.. thats my main reason, and if your shooting for jedi.. i mean think.. melee is what you will be doing.. i mean jedi dont run with pistols ya know.

I agree 100%. Melee is indeed more fun...perhaps you're right. NK and the Acklay and all that are meant to be taken in a group. I need to suck up the fact that some things need to be done with a group and get on with it... Thanks for the support.

Um really i think that if your still struggling with the damage and defensive factors im sure we can get a comparison written up on that kind of stuff for you. I could talk to some people and get the figures. But if you really that worried about another 10 points of defense to something you dont even need i mean why bother. But good decision! Melee is fun.. woot. lol.
