Thread: what is out role supose to be?
I'm still trying to find out hy everyone complains about pikemen. I have recently gotten a holo that said pikeman, so here I am. I only use a nightsister lance that a friend gave me when he heard i got pikeman, and I Haven't even tried another weapon besides it. It does like 28-489 with a 2.0 speed, (it was sliced for speed) and has very low ham costs, i don't know them off hand. Pikeman and my doctor skills, I buff up throw on the armor, and I tank everything in sight while my group adds their supporting fire.
Now, since I started the holo grind, I have not even bothered trying to PvP, but I never thought any melee classes were any good at PvP.
You do good buffed. EVERY class does good buffed. I can do unarmed 4 well... buffed.

In my observations, pikemen work well as a team. One pikeman in a group of multiple targets is great. 2 or more (if you can find them), is amazing. Put a pikeman in a room with multiple tagets, and he owns the room. Add in some support fire from a few others, and you have carnage on a massive scale.
I defy any other profession to hold a room like we can. TKA can knock the stuffing out of a target faster than we can, but they dont do area attacks (yes?). Other classes can deal more damage faster, but we can hold the ground better.
People whine about health, misses etc, but once you reach the higher levels, you will notice a vast improvement.
Put us in an open field with a gunfighter, we are not so good. Put us in the Tusken fort, surround us with bad guys, we can mess stuff up. In just 2-3 swings, all targets are stunned, dizzy, and probably bleeding. We are melee fighters. I belive pikeman is also a state of mind. It may sound hokey, but when Im in a group, I always step in front of the others and take the pain. Someone going down? I'm the first one there to help them. I see a lot of ranged fighters, sit back and wait till another players takes the aggro, then fires away at a safe distance. As a pikeman I charge in, take the aggro, take the pain, and dish the damage.
I see a lot of post saying..."I can solo a..." or "I can't even solo a..." I think that is the problem. We are not meant to solo anything really. We are front line soldiers. In days of old, we stood our ground against the advancing armies, usually on horseback. That is our role.
Want to solo Krayts, or Kimo's? Go do Bounty Hunter or whatever. Want to send bodies flyin? Meet me at the Fort, and we'll impress the crap out of the wannabes.
Yes, I think our intended role is to control multiple targets. We have 6 area attacks. Two or more master pikemen (if you can find that many) at the tusken fort IS a sight to behold, and it's a totaly blast. But the problem is: If we are supposed to hold back, disable, affect multiple targets, what happens when we simply gain the aggro of them all? Pre-patch, we had absolutely nothing, the worst defenses and no hope of defending ourselves apart from buffs and pets. Post-patch, we have CoB which can help us in these situations, but what I say we need to arguably complete the class is two moves:
1. Area bleed (replacespin2 or area2 since they basically are identical or maybe get rid of stun2 altogether, no one uses that)and
2. one special, pikeman-only move that helps to actually keep the enemy at length, fulfilling our name and the purpose of pikemen. We have KD, even area KD, but this is not defining. Ranged users have this, so it's not even melee-defining. We have a good set of area attacks that help to give us some definition, they just need to be completed. An attack where we can keep 1 or multiple targets at bay, at a certain distance from ourselves would give us that extra definition and usefullness that I think we could all be happy with.
If we had a completed set of area attacks and abilities, I think we would see our definition and our role shine clearly.

I would definitely like to see a Pike only move.
However, as to what happens when we gain aggro...we should have help. I dont think we should be able to defeat multiple targets on our own. If you are in a group, you should take the aggro, and hope your support blasts them before you drop. (They should hope that as well). Not a glamorous role, but if we are effective at it, I think it makes us a mandatory addition to any hunting party.
Going hunting? Get a <insert classes here>, oh and for cryin out loud, find a couple pikemen!
That's what I was trying to get at with the move that would keep targets at range, the move may not do much if any damage at all, but keeps the targets at a distance. I don't think it's reasonable for us to be able to take on and always defeat a large number of targets, we would then be the most powerful class in the game (would be fun for the week it stayed that way, though). This could be the counter to us having low toughness and low melee/ranged defenses, and it falls well into the definition of a pikeman, andwould work well in the game, I think. And more twirling of the staff, too!

I would not have stun 2 replaced, as it has helped me get threw the low levels of the profession. I would like to see an area bleed and if I had my way I would turn leg hit 3 into an area attack.
Alright then, that sounds good to me too. I personally don't care much for the redundacy we have in some moves (area2/spin2), we could use that space for something better.
