I took up arms against a guildmate last night ina friendly duel. Stats:
Me:
Master Brawler/Master Pikeman w/ +10 Polearm Speed SEA, +2 accuracy
2500 buffs
Two brandy/Ahrisa for 1806 mind, 1645 Focus, 781 Willpower (I'm a Twi'lek)
Long Vibro Axe: 144-492 4.4, -33/-33/-30
Vibro Lance: 172-632 2.9, -24/-24/-24
80% Kinetic/4% stun composite
Foe:
Master Brawler/TKM/Master Fencer
2500 buffs
Two brandy/ahrisa for similar mind stats (Trandoshan)
Stun Baton: Unknown stats, low-end Acklay around 180 damage max
32% stun//80% electric/80%+ base composite
Since he's stacked in defense, he was KD'd a lot less than I was, but we kept each other intimidated and dealt, at most, 15 damage per swing KD.
We ended the duel about the time we started getting mind costs again. It was a draw.
Now, I haven't been a pikeman full-time since December, but this was a very pleasant surprise. With the change in range mods, a Pikeman can hit. Although without the SEA I would've been a much lower damage dealer (such as it were), it's clear that Pikeman can be almost as viable as TKM (except for the lack of combo dizzy/KD, which is just an annoyance, or mind targetting, which is vital but ineffective with 80%+ kinetic in the current combat paradigm). Thus, I see two ways to make Pikeman truly effective in PvP, rather than just afight-to-standstill profession (and then onlywith the right gear and skills):
Way 1: Stun Staff (include neat in-universe name)
80-140 @ 4.8,AP1 (AP0? We're slow anyways, so I say 1...)DT_Stun, takes two (three?)identical Reinforcement Cores for Acklay goodness
-22/-22/-22 to -4/-4/-4 range mods
HAM 35/80/45
Looted schematic, 5 use, but fairly common (like DXR-6b and Geo Core schems), resources similar to the Stun Baton, except doubled-tripled
Way 2: Hope the combat balance nerfs things to the point where one of our damage types is effective in PvP without killing the game =P
Personally, I'd like to see the first option. It'd be easy to reuse the Reinforced Combat Staff art, and the rest is just statistics.

Nice writeout, and I come to think of why the Nightsister Energy Lance was energy when it could've been a stun lance instead- it's a very rare weapon to see around and get and energy is usually among the highests resists in PVE and PVP. But this all may not matter once the combat balance comes in.

stun isn't going to be the end-all weapon that it is now after the combat revamp

^ God I hope so.
But how could a melee weapon do stun damage? It just doesn't make sense-- wait... stun baton... right.....
Seriously, what is stun damage? "Stun Batons" exist in Star Wars but they just make the person unconcious by jolting them with electricity. So what's with the stun as a damage type? And what the heck is restraint?

I kind of ask that about the electric Vibro Lance, as a former weaponsmith I noticed the VL and stun baton used the vibro unit and power conditioner which most likely sends a vibration shock on impact (kind of like a baseball hitting the "sweet spot" on the baseball bat and feeling the pain up your arms), just an idea of how it works. Maybe someone else can explain better, but I likt the idea of these weapon designs in SWG.

i dont really understand either. though maybe its some starwarsy futurific (even though starwars happens "a long time ago") thing. hell, what is energy damage? i dont see laser beams being used in the armies of the world, besides painting targets out for artillery and such. electricity i understand, its pretty self explanetory. stun dmg might be some sort of newly discovered wave of energy besides electricity. restraint dmg? lol...
