Thread: should i go pikeman? (please read, and advise)

about 2 weeks ago i decided i would like to do Doc and a Melee Profession. A friend of mine said to go swords, b/c he tears through npc's like mad. Another friend said go fencer, b/c he does very well at PvP. I told them both that I would like to do a little of both, and they BOTH told me pikeman is a god middleground for pvp and pve. Then I headed here to start learning about pikeman from the people who know best.... you! the pikeman!
So, after reading all the talk about pike being broken as heck, I'm getting discouraged. IS pikeman the good middle ground for pvp and pve, as my friends have told me? Should I pick up pikeman? (keep in mind, i'm already most of the way done with doctor, and want ONE solid, well rounded combat prof.
I appreciate everyone's advice, and thank you for taking the time to read this and help me out.

They are liars. To our great misfortune, TK is the best middleground for PvP and PvE. Sorry to say it, but pikeman is pretty decent for PvE, but unless you spend 10 million+ on a mind fire lance, we're worthless in serious PvP.

That or finding a LVA with 1000+ damage and +25 speed and accuracy tapes.
I'm going Doc/Pikeman as well, and it's great fun, but if you want to be any good in PvP, forget about it.

I'm doing the doc/pikeman thing as well. It's awesome for PvE (at novice Pikeman-0/0/0/0) I was able to solo an enraged Rancor. But when I dueled a guildmate of mine, I could barely injure him (and he wasn't wearing armor, just a master swordsman). But other than that pikeman is a lot of fun

Wow....thanks for the input everyone. I guess i should try to ask around to see if fencer is of any use in PvE. I know fencer is good for PvP, but is it worth a crap for PvE? I'll head over to the fencer boards to get an opinion. Thanks all!

Im the lucky owner of a exceptional LVA with mindpoison with str 597,And a NS Lance with mind fire 294str.
Looted the LVA myself, you can see it here:

I got 3040 doc/master brawler/master pikeman. Got 100 polearm spd with SEA's.
I must say that i have a hard time thinking of someone that can beat me 1vs1 in PvP, so i must say that pikeman is awsome in duels and also in group pvp, AE attack with mindfire is allways nice.
But whats disturbing is that its very hard to just become a pikeman and buy yourself a LVA and go out and fight in pvp, you depend to much on what can be found from NPC's. But thats just the same as everyone here says.
Dont know about the other pikemens, but i find it fun to spend some hours on dathomir, hunting NS and hoping for a nice drop. Looted a CA with block +15 yesterday, made my day way better.
Just too bad the Elders are to darn exepensive to kill, i wont use my NS Energy Lance for 5mil to waste on a Elder with a droprate of almost 0.
So if you want to be a underdog, want to fight hard for your weapons and to have the best animations in the game (second to the /bob commando 
) then Pikeman is the profession for you..
