Try Ubese. Its relatively cheap compared to Composite, and offers good protection against Kinetic damage, and not bad against ranged. I have a set that is about 20% Kinetic Effectiveness for all parts.

I tend to use a mixture of all the armors. I've found that when attacking NPCs there are ones who will run up to you and melee you, and others will stay back and shoot at you. It works well, I think, providing good protection for both attacks. And when I am just fighting melee, I leave my high energy armor off, and go in with my Kenetic ones. It works well when Soloing hard creatures.

Sorry If I wasn't specific, I only use Chitin and Bone, and never a full suit. just some boots here, an arm there. nothing that keeps me too tied down. I only use a full suitwhen fighting a mixed group (blaster and melee).I combine the pieces from both bone and chitin to make a full suit. I have tried Ubese and Composite, but they are way to heavy to use effectivly. Ubese is not as bad as Composite, but still, I don't like the heavy restraints.

And yes I frequently go unarmored when I solo on lok, it is decent exp, and I don't get hurt that much. Also sometimes I take my blaster friend and the two of us just kill things like mad.

So armor good? yes. Armor bad? yes.

It's all about finding the right combo of the armor that gives you protection and mobility.

If you are a rebel I'ld go with the Marine armor. The chestplate cost 4k fp, most of the other parts cost 2k or 3k of fp. If you are an imp go with the storm trooper armor. As far as I know, these are the strongest armor in the game (you just can't buy it with money).

What about Mandolorian (like what Fett uses) I heard that it is on Yavin IV, next to imposible to find, but worth it.

Krimm,

have you tried fighting without armor at all? I went out with the guild tonight to darthmor. I'm the only melee, most if not all don't use armor. I was using ubese and in the end just took it all off and fought without any armor. (we where fighting giant biz natches)

With armor on, mind goes down way too fast ... I would have down time and the other 10 in the group had none, XP would suck beyond believe 300xp or so. I took all the armor off, mind was much better and my xp would range from 1k to 4k at times. I'm 1 tier up in pikeman now.

Just giving this for info and discussion from a nights fightings findings.

I try to make sure that I have kinetic armor (since kinetic is the majority of what us melee guys get nailed with) with low HAM costs regardless of the effectiveness. Less downtime for me since I enjoy throwing specials up to half my HAM and regeneration is a nuisance while wearing heavier armor. So I ended up wearing piecemail made up of several different armors:

Head: Mabari
Chest: Tantel
Shoulders: Composite
Wrists: Chitin
Gloves: Composite
Legs: Mabari
Feet: Tantel

Knocks my HAM down by 200+ and it'sworked out pretty nicely. I can actually go through camps/nests of dark blue and white mobs without even having to stop and rest anymore since I stopped wearing my full suits of heavy armor (which would knock my HAM down by 400+ points). Once I have the free time and resources, I'll probably be able to knock that HAM encumberance down even more.

I also setup a hotkey to auomatically swap my armor and street clothes so I can get full regen when running from camp to camp. For those of you not familiar with the armorswap hotkey idea, lemme' go ahead and post a quick runthrough on that because it is immensely helpful and I get asked how I do it on a daily basis.

1.Take all your armor pieces and items of clothing you plan on swapping out, then place them each in your last toolbar pane.
2. Make a macro on your combat toolbar pane (we'll use pane #1 in this instance) that switches to the last toolbar pane using "/ui action toolbarPane05". There are 6 panes number 00-05, so pane number six is actually 05 for those of you wondering. The P in toolbarPane MUST be capital, so don't forget that part.
3. Further add to the macro so that it hits each piece of armor and item of clothing you want to swap out using "/ui action toolbarSlot##". ## being hotkey 1-24 on the toolbar pane being represntedas 00-23. If you've done macros before then you should be familiar with this command. If not, I usggest you check out some fan site articls on using macros.
4. End the hotkey with "/ui action toolbarSlot00" so it returns you to your main toolbar pane.

This has the effect of changing you between your armor andstreet clothes in the blink of an eye when you press the hotkey. Just as an example I'm gonna go ahead and include my macro for you to pick through:

/ui action toolbarPane05;/ui action toolbarSlot00;/ui action toolbarSlot01;/ui action toolbarSlot02;/ui action toolbarSlot03;/ui action toolbarSlot04;/ui action toolbarSlot05;/ui action toolbarSlot06;/ui action toolbarSlot07;/ui action toolbarSlot08;/ui action toolbarSlot09;/ui action toolbarSlot10;/ui action toolbarSlot11;/ui action toolbarPane00

Hope this helped!

I found that all the armor Ive tried weights me down way much. With the rediculos HAM costs of specials on a pikeman you are better off using no armor.

I wear only foot and head gear, because the more armour on you takes alot of your strengh away. I mean your crazy too not want your strengh, cause then all you'd be would be this armoured updoll that's hitting like a little girl, taking for ever to knock down a NPC.
