Thread: What is wrong with the pikeman profession.

I have been wondering this for a long time. I have master brawler so I know that at least through pike 1-4 it is quite hard to land hits, and they are fairly slow, etc. But once you get to master, what is it that prevents pike from being just as powerful as any other melee profession? Is it still slow? Is it still that master pikemen miss too often? Is it that you have broken specials which don't do what the description says? I have 3 master pikemen in my guild and I still can't get an answer from them as to what SPECIFICALLY is wrong with pikeman. All I hear people say is "Pikeman sucks" but I never get an explanation.

I dunno, I kinda like Pikeman.

I think its a combination of damage per second, high ham costs, low accuracy...which all mainly apply to the pvp aspect. As far as PvE goes, I think its alot of fun.

Currently at master: Accuracy is still something of an issue; HAM costs are outrangeous (ph3 costs 245 without armor and 400/400/450 secondaries); our hit3 has a 3x damage multiplier whereas all other melee has 4x; our defenses are very low (less than half of a TKAs toughness, half TKA's melee/ranged def, less than half fencer's melee/ranged def); block allows damage unlike dodge and counterattack; autoattack is quick, but sometimes the LVA can be slow, making pvp a chore.

All our specials do what they say they do, we just have more than a few that are redundant, cost a lot and have large delays.

It's still a lot of fun, although it can be frustrating sometimes, other times very rewarding.

im also disappointed in the effects of Stun status effect, maybe thats just me but i dont know any pikemen that use stun1 or stun2 for example.

I work the hell outta stun, it seems to make the target easier to hit and easier to apply status effects also. I basically rarely pull out my LVA unless there is stun on the target, otherwise my specials with the LVA will have a high chance of missing. Just my observation though.

i Dunno what the problem is but at master pikeman i NEVER miss in pvp (doesnt matter vs what uber template i fight) and i use a looted vibro axe with -65 range mods. Try useing a powerup with 33% pointblank and get some skilltapes with accuracy mods.

1) Miserable accuracy combined with slow speed equates a very poor "real world" dps comparative to the other melee classes.

2) Poor defenses compared to the other melee classes (sans Swordsman).

3) Redundant styles (how many AoE attacks does one class really need?) smacks of the class being "slapped together", while other strikes actually counter their own effects (pa3 anyone?).

4) Ridiculous HAM costs that make even Carbineers blush.

In my opinion, of course, all the melee classes should be comparative to eachother - some will be quicker, some more nimble, other more powerful and some a combination of all characteristics whichwould lead to the "rock, scissors, paper" sort of balance. Right now though one melee class is amagnitude better in every catagory, while we're at the bottom of the pile with the rest of the melee classes somewhere in the middle.

With all that being said, I love the class, it just has a certain style that the other classes lack

I am not a pikeman but i can tell you as a tka i have killed 5 at oncewithout them landing a blow on me.There accuracy leaves something to be disired. I think they should be able to out damage every porfession per hit and i also think all the staff weapons such as metel, wooden, combat staff need a speed of 2.0-3.0 because what kind of pikeman swings a light ass staff the same speed as a heavy lance.

You found 5 pikemen at once? Did you get a badge for that?

It's pretty sad...

I'm a TKM with some additional defenses.

I had a Master Pikeman hitting at me for 5 minutes with every special he had, I even healed him so that he wouldn't kill himself. One of his first hits landed and by the end of the "duel", my HAM had regenerated. I simply 1-hit-killed him.

I'm asking everyone who read that not to start screaming nerf at TKAs, it was not a TKA skill at all that made me invincible.

Instead, ask better accuracy for yourselves, don't cry nerf.

A master pikeman?!? I'm sorry but even before I started stacking defenses I could give a TKM some beatings before he put me away and the 1-hit kill part also makes me wonder. The guy must have been using a toothpick to hit you. I've never been 1-hit killed by anybody as a master pikeman (okay that 1800 pt damage to my mind pool by a krayt did the trick).

Thank you. You are one of the few TKA I respect. I never really wanted TKA nerfed. Sometimes I leaned that way and I apologize. I just want Pikeman to have a fair chance in PvP against the other melee classes. I'm not talking about people who have Master Brawler, etc. in their template because I believe if someone invests additional combat skill points they should be more powerful in combat. I'm talking straight up.....apples to apples....unlike what Zoolie is talking about with his Master Brawler backing him up. If a Pikeman spends the same amount of skill points they should be able to hold their own against another melee Master.

We as Master Pikeman are laughed at by novice TKA's because they know we are dead meat up against them. This crap has got to stop. A Master of any profession should smoke a novice player with only a couple of bars trained up. It's down right wrong how the development team has literally ignored us for months. As other melee professions get stronger (namely TKA) we are passed by as if a spec of dirt under their nails.
