... now null and void
So the devs are apparently trying to make it so there aren't any "melee" specialists, or any "ranged" specialists. Since there are no mechanical bonuses from mastering multiple melee professions, they're trying to pigeonhole everybody into choosing one melee, one ranged, and one domestic/commercial... right?
Why would I master Swordsman and Pikeman, just to be able to switch in battle? Why switch at all? You'll find which one is better, stick with it, and dump the other because you'll never use it.
And don't try to tell me that you'll 'switch between them depending on different melee circumstances...' riiiiight
Nothing like generifying everybody.
/sigh
I WAS looking forward to the HAM changes... <shrug> Now there's no such thing as a "melee expert" anymore...

well... I will still keep my TKA for the powerboost and meditate, plus the FoW. I understand that I might have to loose the Fencer dabbling lines, but that's ok.. I'll use those to get some scoutskills and go milk some Stuff on Dantooine or whatever.. my point is; you can still use the skills from the other professions just not the skillmods(or was it just the melee and ranged defenses?)

I really think once they think this thru they will either put a cap on defenses, spread out defenses in the trees more (forcing one to be a master rather than going up just one leg to gain all the defense capabilities of a profession), and/or just cap the secondary defenses like dodge, counter, and block.
Profession blending to get the maximum punch I think will still be a viable option. Just not as potent as it is now. If they do it the wrong way and eliminate any reason to blend professions then everyone will migrate to the strongest combat professions. If they stay on the same path as they have it will be TKA for melee..unsure of ranged as I haven't explored those professions.
If anything comes of it they need to make the other 3 melee professions on par with TKA or make TKA require more skill points. It's a catch 22 they need to fix. If TKA is the best, more people will flock to TKA, TKA gets the most attention and gets the best upgrades and it starts all over again. This last little number on dots hurt everyone but TKA. Same goes for Mitigation...this hurt the other 3 melee professions more then TKA.
I hope they take their time and get it right. 3 RL friends of mine will be quitting after this week and others will follow. I'm holding on by a thread.
