... why?
Please read the entire post Daros. I explained why I think we should have the Naginata instead of a lance.
I just added this part because, eastern asian cultures have alwayshad a strong influenceon the StarWars universe.

Were not playing an "Actual Pikeman"...we are playing an Fantasy Pikeman from the SW universe.
That was kind of what I was getting at...
There's influence from -every- RL culture in Star Wars... not just Eastern cultures. I'd rather see something akin to a double-bladed sword (double-vibroblade?), simply because that's what our animations suggest (that and plain ol' staves).
Also, if you check out the d20 Star Wars rules, you can find a couple variations on the lance.. the Force Pike, and Vibro Lance. Both weapons are used while on foot, and simply put, they are powerful weapons that give you reach bonuses (you can attack someone from 2 squares away, rather than one, and they get smacked around if they try to get close to you).
"The style of fighting that they use for a pikeman is nothing like an actual pikeman would use at all. They hardly ever swung thier weapon but rather used it to poke or stab thier opponent."
The vast majority of polearms used by the pikemen you speak of actually had bladed edges, i.e. axe heads. Halberds, Glaives, Guisarme, Lochaber Axe, Spetum, Voulge, ranseur... all of these were polearms used for slashing...
Final point..
"A lance is used as a weapon while mounted, for charging at an apponent. Since we don't really charge anything while we are mounted, there really isn't a use for it. It shouldn't be classified as a polearm."
I suppose you should probably look into the Footman's Lance, a smaller version of the lance carried by riders. It was used during the Iron Age, throughout most of the known world. Really, it was like a spear, but was built to be used multiple times, unlike spears which were designed such that the tip would break off after use...

I agree with you on this one too, Daros. I think we should get a double-bladed weapon too.
The animations for the Basic Lance just don't fit right. Since the rest of our weapons have 2 ends with which to strike a target, the lance just has one. Therefore the animations just don't look right when using the basic lance.
I don't know how difficult it would be to change the way a weapon looks, or fix certain animations and names, i.e. Change the way a lance looks to either a double-bladed weapon or a Naginata or other polearm weapon. I would imagine it couldn't be too difficult. The Dev's are always doing hotfixes and touch-ups to improve graphics and other visual aspects of the game.
I brought up the Naginata in the original post, because I thinkit fits more into the fighting style of our profession. It has an edged end, and the oppositeend of the staff can be used as a blunt striking end. It is similar to a Halberd, it's just used with more finesse. The animations of our attacks are very fluid, and mimic more of a eastern asianfighting style, rather than a midevial european fighting style.

Thanks all who have responded. Maybe we can get this put into the next set of 'questions' for the Dev's.
Unless this would fall under the 'combat revamp'. The main concern right now seems to be our accuracy mods / defense mods (which are all supposed to be addressed in that patch). Maybe this could be a small patch for us until the combat patch comes out in a few months.
Any thoughts from the Pikemen correspondent or other Elders of the Pikemen forum?
