Thread: New to Pikeman? Start Here (Tips and Tricks)
New Pikeman skip this paragraph, Posters, READ HERE:
In this post, I ask that high level pikeman offer tips (the abbridged version, so reading them do not take too long) for those new to the pikeman class. Offer everything from strategies to the best armor and weapon salesmen on your server. Pleaseonly add tips and the like, this is not a topic open for discussion, it is only created for people to learn about the profession and so that they can have something to rely on when they are confused, need help, or just want to know where to buy meds, food, weapons, etc. Do not talk about bugs, problems, oppinions, etc. Again this is to help the new recruits not to hinder their development.
So, you just finished your Brawler Polearm skills and you want to be a pikeman. Congradulations! Welcome to the proffession. We Pikeman may be few, but we are a proud few. Though other professions may wish to nerf us, we remain strong, and they are just afraid.
The Pikeman profession is a group, a community, so be sure to help out another pikeman in need when you can, who knows, one may even save your life and return the favor.
For those of you needing a trainer for novice visit an NPC at one of these locations, I am sure there are more, so other people may be able to add more later:
Pikeman Trainer (-2932, 2385) - Mos Espa, Tatooine
Pikeman Trainer (-5277, -2325) - Narmle, Rori
Pikeman Trainer (-5376, 4311) - Theed City, Naboo
Polearm Trainer (522, -2934) - Dearic, Talus
I guess since I am starting the thread, I get to start my helpfulbunch of tips.![]()
If you are on the Gorath server, give the character Khrim Charan a /tell. That is my pikeman character. If you need training, some cheap weapons or armor, or even a bit of cash to start you out, then I can help. I have a cantina to the NW of Bestine that has people who will heal you up and fix that battle fatigue, at little to no cost. Just Mail me or the characters ("belle", "belle-morte", or "Cesrir") and they will give you the coords. You can stock up on cheap food items from the bartendor vender thereprovided byour master chef "Ook".
In general, You may want to also pick up the novice medic skills, that way you can buy and use stimpack b's and solo easier. If you do not wish to pick up medic, or you want an extra edge try food or drinks, a few good items created by a master chef can make you practically undefeatable. Spices can also help a great deal, but remeber, spices have negative affects when you "withdrawl" from them, which may hurt you more then it helped you.
Thank you all for chosing pikeman, and/or posting in this forum if you are already high up in pikeman.
Khrim...
I'll try my best..
Get medic!! you'll regret that you didn't get it ![]()
Stick with the lance till you hit advanced support. When using the lva be sure not to spam your special unless you have medical, food buff, or whatever. Find a good chef that make tatooine sunburn, theres a different between a special costing 300 ham and 80 ham
,If you can't afford those then...Befriend a doctor! having medical buff on strength/quickness is awesome!! Kinda common sense but leghit + actionhit = good kk?
If your starting on radiant then feel free to /tell kriege , I'm a master pikeman so I'll be able to teach you any pikeman skill. I'll be happy to lend you some credit and weapon/armor if you like
Your best option for armor in my opion is of course Composite. It's can be very expensive in credits and encumberance but I feel the 35-50% to all helps out in the field. I myself started with Chintin, then Ubese and now composite. Depending on your species, (I am Zabrak) you may need to take some pixie dust to put the Composite on. Beware of the downer on that, man it took me by suprize but once the downer goes away, you can still use the armor you equiped. After that, i did some stat migrating to get rid of most of the negitive values in stamina and constitution.
Another tip is that you may want to get master brawler as well if you can spare the points. The additional accuracy is well invited and lunge2 is a good range move for a knockdown.
I am on Eclipse. If your on that server, give a tell to Vizor and I will do what I can to help. I enhance all pikes at no charge and would gladly train anything you need. (Sorry no rebels welcome)
/wave
No real tips to give, anything i would have has been mentioned. But if you come to Kauri, I will hook you up with all the sunburns you could wan't, fer cheap. Also I will help you get a LVA as awesome as mine, 131-470Dam 4.4 Speed.
Oh also...for you new guys using sunburns. Here are a few tips. You NEVER need to drink more than one at a time(unless you gust need to regenerate like mad(action). DO NOT leave them in your hotkeys when you log in and out. They will likely glitch and become unconsumable. If this has already happened to you do not throw the broken ones away; I talked to a CSR and she said that they were trying to figure out why this is happening and that your broken ones may become useable once again.
So be strong, and don't let the man bring you down.
I'll be joining your ranks soon. I'm doing a Twi'lek Weaponsmith/Pikeman on Starsider. I'm only about 30k away from novicepikeman, but I have finally mastered weaponsmithing and can focus a little more on my fighting skills. I've been pikeman since the start because I love polearms. Any tips would be nice. (Especially on what armor to use)
My guide to pikeman:
Right now, Pikeman need help from the devs. Untill that happens, there is quite a number of tools that you can use to make pikeman one of the strongest classes in combat.
Medic: Absolutly have to have this. No combat charactor should be without at least minimal medic skills.
Spices: Yes, there is a downer with spices, but they're well worth it. Muon Gold will buff up your mind significantly, which helps a lot. Nueron Pixie boosts your health, and that increases your chances of survival.
Food: Tatooine sunburns will negate your ham costs for a short period of time. Caf and rations will increase your willpower significantly. The end effect is a more efficient fighter, if only for a very short period of time.
Enhancements: Have a Master Doctor enhance your stats. I once had all 6 Action/Health attributs at 2500 (+/- 100) and thatlasted two hours. Not only does this make your ham costs nearly non existant, it also gives you some serious regeneration as well as survivability in combat. Myself and the other Doctors on flurry charge 3-5k for a full application of enhancements. It's definatly worth the money when you're grinding.
Support: Kiting is a big issue, especially in PvP. Having some stormtroopers or sr specforce rebels in your control will not only help you kill faster, but give you some insurance against kiting. Also, a cowardly gurrek will be a great help as well.
Learn to use every move in the profession. Learn what it does and in what situations to use them. Practice will be the key to this, it's not really something you can learn off the forums. Keeping youself to one move not only makes you predictable, but makes any other sp used in other boxes worthless, and decreases your effectiveness (also leads to boring gameplay).
Defenses are a bonus. I Mastered the defensive tree first, and am now working on finishing the few boxes I have left in the other trees. I'd suggest you go up the defensive line to master first, then work on the others.
I have listed out in this post the tools that I use to have success as a not-yet-mastered pikeman. These are things you have to have to succede, just tools to help out.
Hope this post helps.
Forgot about the armor: Composite, no doubt. It lasts for quite a long while, gives the best bonuses, but at the cost of high ham. Enhancements negate this cost (but doesn't help you to put the armor on unfortunately) so wearing it is a big plus. Add in composite with enhancements and you're going to last quite a lot longer than without.
MK3 shield generators are also a great help. They don't last long and are very expensive though, so use sparingly.
I believe you should have at least Novice Medic trained...also when you begin any fight one-on-one...then use intimidate if you can land it...this will cut down on your damage that you take. Also I use berserk, because I have a 2.5 lance and with a powerup putting it at 325 max damage anything at half life then I tend to destory after that. If fighting two or more targets...stick with lance and just try to survive...it can be done if you can heal fast enough...but still pretty tough for me since I wear no armor still. Hope this helps.
