I was hoping some of the more knowledgeable in Pikeman and game mechanics in general could give me a hand here. I have recently returned to the game, and am currently an MBH, and due to the recent publish have 81 skill points left. Master Scout was always required for MBH when I was playing before, but now with these skill poitns available...I have some decisions to make and I'm having a heck of a time with them.
So I have a few questions and was really hoping I could get some advice.
Right now...I'm hemming and hawing between a few different templates. My friend is a master doc so I never have need for medic skill as they are always with me. I don't do any Jedi-Hunting so I don't need to worry about that. I also know that I want to keep MBH in whatever template I decide. My friend and I always play together and its mostly PVE and I do a bit of friendly one-on-one PVP duels on the side. So my goal is to be able to pull alot of weight in PVE so that just the two of us can have some fun and get far.
I was looking at a few templates:
1)
MBH
Melee Classxxxx (Depends on the advice I get from you guys)
2)
MBH
Master Carbineer
Pistoleer 0030
3)
MBH
Carbineer 0424
Pistoleer 0040
Rifleman 0030
So my problem is I'm not sure what will be a 'better' template for my in game goals...to stick with all ranged professions...or....to dump the carbineer/pistoleer in favor of a melee class.
My first stop was to get some advice from the TKA guys....and they told me that it was the pikeman and swordsman that are the places to go. So I figured I'd see what you guys have to say about your profession.
If you do indeed think that I'd be better off going with Pikemen instead of carbineer/pistoleer, then I have52 skill points to spend (After I've already bought the required tree of brawler) and was wondering what the BESTPikeman setup would be with those52 points...mainly for PVE and friendly one-on-one PVP Duels.
Any helpful thoughts, suggestions, or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
If your curious about my original question to the TKA guys...here is a link:

hmm .. my suggestion is to indeed get some melee.. you need melee mit or you'll be cut down hard....
i love pike.. but if you for example are spamming eyeshot.. and when something gets close you want to continue mindhits ... you may be more interested in getting HS .... concentrated attacks always speed combat along...
and you dont need MBH if you're jsut trying to hunt jedi's ... just get inv 3.. that frees up a lot more points ....

if your not hunting jedi, why do you keep MBH then?
maybe those points could be spent making a fully fleshed out template.
not that i think mbh is a bad choice..i loved it...for NINE months

Thanks for the responses so far
That helps immensely already
To answer your question, I actually don't do any Jedi hunting...I simply wish to keep MBH because I really enjoy the profession. However, having recently returned to the game and having those skill points free...it gives me the opportunity to make my character a bit stronger in PVE so that my friend and I can go places and do things that would have been more difficult, or even downright impossible before.
Prior to that publish....my character was strictly ranged...but now with the skillpoints free...I'm trying to keep an open mind and benefit from other character's experience....maybe stick with ranged...or maybe go with melee...depending on the input I get from you guys

melee is a good choice, and if you plan on mainly doing PvE, then i would go with swordsman. if you have enough points then take up meditate 4 in tk to heal your wounds. i suggest this to anyone that wants to take up a melee profession. swordsman is a very solid choice for melee, because of the ability to use a medium ap blast weapon in the powerhammer.
if you do want to go strictly ranged, i would stick to master pistoleer over carbineer. dodge is a far better defensive ability then block. add the ability of fan shot, and stopping shot with eye spam, and torso from bh pistol, and you'll have a very good assortmant of pistol attacks, not to mention:LLC single 2, bh carbine fire knockdown, and bh carbineconfusion shot (forgot the name?).
the good thing about this game is you can constantly change the template your character has as long as you're willing to invest the time in it. don't forget to have fun with what you end up doing.
