Hello all

I have read several template posts but while I can calculate stats easily with a character skills builder, it's which skills are more important in PvP that I'm interested in. I have not done any serious PvP in about a year and I'm a bit disconnected from the reality of melee stackers, jedi and the likes. I understand the theory but it's the insights from practical PvP I'm missing.

What I'm going for: I'm going Master Pikeman with TKA 4-0-0-0 that's for sure, I also want to have at least novice medic and scout 2/4-0-4-0 sinceI want to help friends gather resources andI hate sucking in hills.

WhatI want to do: High-end PvE (Geno lab, DWB, Corvette, NS hunting, etc.) and some occasional PvP as well, including Jedi hunting.

What my dilemma is: Beyond the basic requirements listed above, I'm not sure which additional professions/boxes to get. I'm not sureI want to get some pistoleer for the state defenses and ranged damage mitigation, I think I'd prefer all melee. here are the 2 basic options I'm considering:

  • Master Pikeman, Novice Medic, Scout 4-0-4-0, Master Brawler, TKA 4-0-0-4, Fencer 4-0-0-0

  • Master Pikeman, Novice Medic, Scout 4-0-4-0, Brawler 4-4-0-4, TKA 4-4-0-4, Fencer 4-2-0-0

Various questions I have:

  • Is Master Brawler worth it? Are the bonuses and new commands for Intimidation/Warcry worth the lower state defenses? Do the small bonuses in speed/accuracy, melee/ranged defense make a worthwhile difference?

  • Can I really expect seeing a big difference in getting knocked down less often if I have 60 vs. 20? Or will I still get KD'd a lot even at 60? How about Def. vs Posture Change (Down) 80 vs 30?

  • Does Combat Equilibrium really help a lot? My 2 suggestions mean having 10 vs 40.

  • Do you have other recommendations on how i should build my template based on what I have mentioned so far? I would really appreciate constructive help. I know templates are personal and depend on preferred play styles, and I'm not looking for people to post their templates here, I have already read these threads. I'd rather get advice on how to optimize the suggestions presented here.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Is the pikeman community dead? I posted this over 2 weeks ago, and got no replies. Could you guys take a minute and offer advice please? I'd really really appreciate it.

With Pikes as your main and pretty much only weapon you will constantly use I would take up the Master Brawler part. The bonuses it gives will help you in the long run.

What about my questions on combat equilibrium and state/KD defenses? I know they are not critical to PvE but given I'd like to do some PvP as well, would Master Brawler be better vs other stackers and Jedi or would the extra state/KD defenses be worth it?

This is the part where I'm truly torn... I agree that Master Brawler would be best for PvE... it's the PvP part where i am disconnected from the current state of combat.

Thanks for your feedback so far, it's greatly appreciated.

I'm master pikeman working on mastering medic (3-2-3-4)then doctor after that. Even without master brawler bonuses and not going TKA at all, i can still tank on a GDK wearing Comp chest plate, boots, gloves, and helmet with 2200-2500 buffs. I solo tanked on one in a 4-person hunting party (1 pistoleer, 2 riflemen and myself) and killed it in about 20 minutes. Personally, i like having the medic profession compared to another bralwer profession. No one died and I had to back off once to heal up some before tanking again. The best thing to do for pikeman is to make friends with your friendly neighbornood weaponsmiths and armorsmiths and get custom made weapons suited to your tastes. i don't use sliced weapons or P/U's and I can still tank on virtually anything. Pikeman are probably the rarest profession in the game (at least on Radiant I haven't seen very many, about a dozen or so Master Pikers excluding myself). I found using hit 3, sweep 2, and action 2 tossed in with a warcry 1/intimidate 1 makes for a very powerful combo with any polearm.
