does master pikeman increase chance of DOTs sticking or do mpikeman just consider potency less of an importance then say novice pikeman bcuz they hit so much faster?

The second part of what you said is right on. Being a Master Pikeman doesn't increase the potency of a DOT weapon but since, as a Master Pikeman, you are more accurate and faster then anyone else holding a polearm, you'll be able to land more hits over a given period of time, so potency isn't as important a factory as it is to a pike dabbler.
In testing, I've had pretty good success landing dots with potency as low as 30%.

cool thats great cuz i got a 300str mind poison and i havent been to happy with the 36% potency but im working on master now cuz im dropping my defense stack for the combat revamp, really hoping to get more outta it

So, will I be able to land DoTs effectively at 4004 pike? Or is it worth it to master it and lose the SPs at other profs.

If you're not a Master Pikeman you can still land DOTs of course, it's just you won't hit as much or as fast, as a Master would. At 4-0-0-4, you're missing +10 in speed and +20 in accuracy that you get from the Master box. One idea is to stay 4-0-0-4 but add attachments to get the stats up. You could also pick up the force sensative lines of melee speed and accuracy.
This is just my personal opinion, but if I were a pike dabbler, I'd want potency around 70% or so (or more). If I'm a master pike with attachments and FS lines, I'm feeling ok about going much lower in potency.
