Thread: Is this really how things are supposed to be?
Eh, hey guys.
I originally posted this in the "Development" forum, but it got spammed off the first page faster than I could refresh.
You all seem to have good ideas/commentary, so I figured I'd re-post it here instead of letting it go to waste.

The subject pretty much sums up what I'm asking here.
I spend a decent amount of time on these boards, going through and reading everyones obersvations/speculations/criticisms/etc.. there are lots of valid points, good ideas.. and on the flipside.. not-so-valid points, and not-so-good ideas.. (at least, according to my personal opinions..)
Anyway.. the fact of the matter is.. while yes, we are coming up with lots of conclusions, what exactly is the basis of reference that we're making them from? The only place that we have them, which is the current state of the game. And, that itself isn't completely static, as it changes with each patch..
But, referring to my subject--Is this really how things are supposed to be? Just because something *IS*, doesn't mean that is also how it *OUGHT* to be. I'm sure all of you have glaring examples of this in all of your daily lives..
So, the thing I'm wondering.. is what was the original intent for all of the professions? How were they all originally intended to balance out? Was a fencer supposed to be the melee equivalent of a pistoleer? Was a pikeman never intended to be able to hit the broad side of a barn with a large stick?
We all have our issues, of course, but I think it would make it a lot easier if we knew exactly WHERE things went wrong, And where the devs eventually want things to end up--it'll make the wait a lot more bearable.. And, on another note.. if Pikeman(or, any other profession, for that matter..) is intended to be the way it is--then, so be it. It makes complaining a moot point if it isn't ever going to be fixed.
Just to give you all a little insight.. I'm a Pikeman, from the Chilastra Galaxy.. Currently 2/0/1/1..
During combat, my accuracy is downright horrible. And, I mean *horrible*. On a good day I hit around 40% of the time, most less than that.. when I do it, I do about 300-500 damage, every 4.6 seconds..
When I use a special,(let's take Polearm Hit 2 for example, gained at Novice Pikeman) I do -273 Dmg to myself, while I am wearing no armor. That is the combation of the HAM costs on our weapons and the cost of the special moves. Simply put, I cannot afford to take 270 dmg on an attack that hits less than 40% of the time w/ a 5 second delay..
If I did not have my Medic/Doc skills, I would lose frequently to blues. Granted, I'm not the best outfitted pikeman I've seen, but even given superior equipment, the improvement would not be much.
I'm not going to be giving up Pikeman, or cancelling my account for a long time, if ever, but... I'm just curious.. Is this really how things are supposed to be?

our accuracy, rnage, HAM costs, blocking and other stat change defense could all be fixed.
I think that we will be a great profession, I think pikemen could = player tanks. Hopefully we do get fixed and thats something to look forward to, there just needs to be more of us
