I think what he meant was that two of the three weapons we use have negative accuracy mods on them. My LVA has -55 and my VL is -35. In my experience, as accuracy modifiers improve with skill, the "missing" decreases so Im assuming the mods arent broken (unlike the profession).

It does improve as you level, and italso improvesas you acquire more accuracy mods. Some of our weapons, currently, are always in a negative, but notall of them. Some do give a bonus to hit and rarely miss in fact.

I always see -50 in blue next to whatever I'm fighting, so yup looks to me like to hit never improves

Feels that way too - I miss a lot

The bonuses to hit which you get as you climb the pikeman tree do not have any affect on the number you see beside the mob you are fighting. That number only represents the distance modifier which is applied to your total chance to hit your opponent.

As both a pikeman and a master weaponsmith - I do believe that our distance/weapon modifiers are borken. I've made adjustments while crafting weapons taking my vibro lances down to -20 instead of -35 and there was no change when fighting - my value is always around -35. The same goes for my long vibro axes. The modifiers are pretty far out there to begin with : /

Hunter, which of our weapons "rarely miss"?

Basic Lances rarely miss. I use it over my LVA. either my lance or vibrolance are my pike weapons of choice.

a basic lance is normally at -5 distance modifier. When a mobs approaches you and comes too close, the number will change to either 0, or even +5. That why I like it. depending on the monster I fight, i use a VL against a mob that's vulnerable to electricity, and against kinetic, I either use my speed lance or damage lance, depending if I am Berserk or not.
