I got master brawler, and I'm almost to novice pikeman.

also, fortunately, I have a bunch of combat exp saved up from other things, enough to nearly take me to polearm support support abilities 2 right away.

I was considering starting off with stances, for the speed bonuses and the stun move which I am told is a good move to have. (btw, what's the title for the stances line?)

any input on what branch to start with?

Start with the stance tree first, the speed really helps you miss faster

I did the defense line for area sweep. But I did much of this before the original KD nerf.It is up to you, but Offense line is the worst. Nothing to help you except LEgHit3.

Titles show if you hold your mouse of the 4th box in each branch.

Stances i would recommend.

Stances = Heavy Cleaver

Offensive = Pikeweaver

Defensive = Foot Soldier

The last one = Expert Pikeman

I also agree with stances. Going from master pikeman and sacrificing some of my stances made a very noticeable difference. It actually hurt to lose just one of the +15 speed modifiers. ActionHit1 and ActionHit2 are the bread and butter of pikeman, but ActionHit2 has a very slow recovery time which is directly affected by the +speed modifiers. Most of the middle skill trees offer you nothing which will make a big difference. I went up the defense tree first, and only use the LegSweep special from the tree. All AoE attacks=almost worthless since the KDchange. Course with this last big batch of bugs they had, the AoE sweep was FUN!!! Too bad it only lasted one day.

With the new tank ability going live soon, I'd go up the defense tree first. It will (hopefully) make your survivability increase by a significant amount (plus the melee and ranged defense bonuses)

Speed is good, but a sliced vibro lance for speed works pretty fast.

Stances.

TKM, then 1h sword, then 2h sword, and if somehow you hacked the system for more points, go ahead and throw in Pike.

I went Stances -> Defensive -> Offensive

Working on last box of Offensive now.

The speed is great, I attack at 1.2s or so, average of 500 damage.

Offensive line is kind crappy, Area hits 1 and 2 are not worth it, Leghit3 is the only thing. Sweep, and Sweep2 are nice / least they were before KD changes.
