Well...here goes:

Ever since hearing that us Pikeman were pushing for a "Profession Defining" move described as an ability to "Pin" and hold down enemies, I began to imagine what it would be like.

And I let my imagination fly free!....

I imagine it to be so this pin move will have a restricted range, 'bout 5m and when you land a successful pin, the enemy is KD'd there and YOU AND THE ENEMYare Immobile for as long as the Pikeman can hold him down as he keepsthe tip of hisLVA pointed downon the enemies chest on the ground. This does absolutely no damage (For balance sake)

Every "turn" for the duration of the hold as the enemy struggles to break free, you will lose a reasonable amount of HAM that is excessive at first from Novice, and gradually becomes less as you become more efficient and at Master the cost will be well within reason and the hold much more efficient.A roll can be made for the enemy at every "turn" for breaking free and getting a swing at the pikeman in an attempt to break his concentration and swerve his balance.

If the enemy breaks free of the pin then the Pikeman, from the force of the violent enemy, loses his balance and is KD Dizzy'd, loses all HAM, and is automatically deathblowed and all items take an extra10% decay regardless of insurance................lol j/k.......then the Pikeman gets KD'd and stunned as the enemy helps himself back on to it's own feet.

Pin move has it's own accuracy category and modifiers andcreatures and mobs have a certain resitance to "Pin" (Restraint?). Multiple Pikeman can stack their pin ability on a single creature (A certain Cap of how many Pikeman can pin each creature?) and help to keep the enemy on it's back. The higher the level of the enemy the harder it is to pin and keep pinned and will require more Pikeman to control. So Deadly diseased Flesh eating chubas will be pinnable by any 'olbandwagon (Gawd I shudder at that thought)Pikeman, and more deadly creatures such as.......umm.......a lone Kimogila........ will require more Pikeman to restrain it.

-Details-

  • A very restricted Range of about 5m, not including accounts for Lag (For all the non Pikeman, our weapons have max range of 4 meters...FOUR Meters........TKA Fingernailshave farther reach than us)

  • Once the pin is succesfully pulled off, the Pikeman and the target becomes completely immobile and Pikeman cannot do anything else, no heals, no specials, etc.......

  • The Pin duration HAM costs are irrelivant to secondarystats (Stamina,Quickness, etc....) and has it's own internal modifier which is acquired by going up the Pikeman profession. So all Pikeman will have same costs as each otherat one point or another.

  • Pin move does absolutely no damage at all.

  • Pin move stackable in effectiveness from each individual Pikeman.

  • Preferably little to no HAM costs for initiating the Pin in preparation for the long haul of durational HAM costs.

  • Must not ever be a timer on the pin or it will destroy a major portion of the usefulness and flexibility of that move and will land somewhere in the back sitting right next to Berserk2.

  • Really not sure about XP gains.....my vision is this is mainly a support skill.

-Pros-

  • No longer will you be the only person who thinks having you in a group is fun...........Friends, guild mates, and strangers alike will rejoice in thunderousvigor and cheeras they see you running out of the starport to join their hunting party........well............maybe that's over exaggerating a little............but now people will be looking for Pikeman....just like how people look for Doctors to revive, or Commandos for flame DOT ( Profession defining ability), or TKA's for the oh so needed /autokill ability (Also a Profession defining ability ), Combat Medic's for Disease/poison, Rifleman for ranged DB, Pistoleers for their inherent ability to deal massive whining damage which no Dev's have resistance to(Yes, another profession defining ability, Mwuahaha), Carbineers for their various KD's, Squad Leader for their passive bonuses, Bounty Hunters for their ability to chase away the Shuttle right when you're handing the ticket collector your ticket..........

-Cons-

  • Bad for the aspiring Pikeman as everytime they group to gain XP, the obnoxious overweightTrandoshan TKM demands that you pin the critter so he can use Ranting Rawl.........errr, Spitting Rawl...................................................

  • Will start an Anti-Pikeman bandwagon from whatever FOTM profession happens to be in fear of us dethroning their title.

  • Rants and calls of nerf will lead to Dev's noticing they accidentally left Pikeman in the game, and will result in prompt deletion. So there will be about 13 pissed off Master Pikeman.......

-Conclusion-

I envision this move to be purely for grouping purpose and for support purpose..............I'm so sure every one of us has gained Master Status from grouping..........if you didn't you must be a Master Doctor.......so as I am accustomed to grouping this is the way my vision of the pin came to me.

I think that's good idea, but what for us that likes to solo? I am that much into "group-killing" thing, unless it's for some purpose, so I like to stick with my Lance and kill things by myself.

This is really a great idea, but not great for everyone.

Since when do developers like good ideas?

Everyday I look at Pikeman and say..."I did Carabineer...I wanna try Pikeman."

I think it's a very interesting idea, and it'd give groups a reason to want a pikeman. My only objection is that it would make pikemans not want a group. A move like this would pretty much thrust the "crowd-control" mantle onto the pikeman's shoulders...they'd be expected to pin every creature they come across. The problem with this? Under the current system, the pikeman providing this service would get absolutely no experience.

Of course, if you made it an ability attained only at master Pikeman, it wouldn't make quite so much of a difference...

A few suggestions.

1.)Make this move only available for use on humanoid enemys, or delop some creative animations when used on creatures. I don't want to see a pikeman with a lance magically flip a kimo on its back and hold his weapon to it's throat..

2.)If multiple people pin something, what would that animation look like? Would it look like when multiple people sit in a chair? they jsut overlap each other?.. lame. Make it interesting.

3.)KD and dizzy for when the creature breaks free? Isn't this pretty much automatic death if we hold the aggro after pinning? (at least on bigger mobs I would expect it to be,, and since this is a group orientated move.. I have to assume the target is bigger than you can handle alone..)

Back in beta I mentioned all fighter types should get at least 1 "defining" move. Back then my suggestion was a simple flashy animation that had no combat value whatsover other than to look cool. (pistoleers flipping their pistol end over end and catching it behind their back, pikeman,fencers,two-handed users doing flurrys of attacks through the air (accompanied by that cool trailing effect when doing specials) things of this nature.

What could be cooler than spinning your staff through a series of flashy attacks with a style that says"Hey, I'm a pikeman! and don't you forget it!" I think everyone could enjoy a move like this, and since it has no combat value, theres not a whole lot of issues about "balance".

All I ask the devs is that if they do decide to implement something like this, please use mo-cap... don't do it half-arsed and make the animations as jerky and unnatural looking as the "new" added flourishes for dancers. /shudder

P.S. As you can tell, I'm a big fan of what looks better rather than actual use.. lol

eh...yes it is very nice, and well thought out, however....no damage is done?...yea I would scrap it and create something we could either do damage with, or something similar that "holds them" but we can still attack..

a very interesting idea

very good for groups my only concern is about solo play

if the "Pin" is very good (as is supposed to be better than kd-dizzy and usefull in group) the risk is that it could be umbalancing in solo.... is it true that pikeman can't do damage performing it, but he can apply some massive bleeding and then "Pin" the opponent to death.

Anyway ... great Idea dude ..... but probably too hard to code for our Devs friends ...

Well, what some of you are forgetting is that this move would make us extremely balanced . Think about this combo:

Action Hit 1
Action Hit 2
/pin

Hold them down while they bleed to death . Not only that but we lose very little ham for it. This move would be somewhat similar to how a fencer with feign death can solo anything. Bleed them, then feign. If they gave Pikeman this, I may take back everything bad I said about the devs.
