Thread: Wanting to live the Pikeman dream...

Hello, thanks for reading this. Ever since I started this game at launch day, I'd always wanted to do Pikeman. The only thing that has shyed me away from it is that I've heared they are the "plauged" melee profession. Some say they don't deal enough damage, some say they're slow, some say they are the worst PvPers in the game, and some say they suck in general. I admit, until last month I was a FOTMer. (Did TKM, did Rifleman. No CM or Fencer though.) Now I want to do something that I want to do. I'm just afraid that all of the "rumors" are true. Do Pikeman really do that bad in PvE? Do they really do that bad in PvP? Any help from people who have actually played the profession would help, seeing as all my thoughts are based on speculation.

Like any profession, there are ups and downs to being a Pikeman. You won't be a super damage dealer, unless you have a high damage LVA or choose to go the DoT route. It's best to supplement it with another profession, just in case.
In PvE however, I have found Pikeman to be excellent. Good damage with AP 2 weapons (LVA) or AP 1 weapons (VL); all with decent speed. The specials we have are also quite effective (KD, Dizzy, Stun) and are lots of fun to stick on mobs. We are also one of the few professions with electricty damage (handy for droideka, SBD's, battle droids). However, our toughness is more or less non-existant (compared with, say, TKA) so, again, it's good to supplement with another profession to maximize the defensive potential.

Always remember something youu can beat any body you want if you know your proffession and can play it well. You dont have to be FOTM to be good.

you know, there are other ppl in profs that arent broken like pikeman, that KNOW how to use there prof aswell, so yeah you cant beat anybody, ESPECALLY with out DOT's/skill taps

Pikeman in PvE is awesome(I don't PvP, so I really don't care about that). Glad I took it up in addition to Rifleman.

I don't know why people say we don't do damage. I frequently hit for2500+ and it's rare that anyone outside of swordsman can outdamage me or take aggro from me. Pikeman has come a long way since release. We don't miss as much and we have much better damage. There are still a few weird quirks like why we have 2 AoE attacks that basically do the same exact thing but other then that it's great profession. Probably why it's all the sudden the FotM.

I am new to pikeman, but I can still say that the best way to find out if those "rumors"are true is to just try pikeman and see.

your not FOTM unless you can go into theed or cornet ask to be trained in so and so skill and have five offers in mins at least on corbantis getting skills takes 10mins or more

lol. never thought about it but... that's so right. If you have to pay for your training, you're not FOTM
I've done the same thing: calmed down from the holo craze and settiling in on my final template:
Master Brawler/Master TKA/Master Pikeman
with some medic and scout thrown in for obvious reasons.
I don't pvp hardly ever, so it's all PvE for me. fun is the key, sir.
