Best part of being Pikeman:

1. Moves look so cool!! Yea. I play SWG to have fun. And I have tried many other professions. I have the most fun here. Only other interesting lookingto me are Doctor and Commando but Doctor Crafting grind lost my interest and the thought of even being able to wear the title MAster Marksman gives me the shivers. What is the fun of running 10 m from your target with auto-attack till they are dead? Crowd Control was so fun.

What are the gems of being a pikeman, aside from hitting things with a large (sometimes vibrating :smileysurprised stick? In trying to come up with some constructive discussion about pikemen, maybe we can look at the benefits and come up with more solutions to pikeman problems than simply "nerf this" or "unnerf that". Not to bash nerfing, but there's more than one way, etc.

So, to all pikemen or anyone else: What are the advantages, real or perceived, of being apikeman?

example: Other melee classes have problems catching people to slice/dice/immolate/etc them. Does the pikeman extra reach compensate for this? (I don't know! I'm not a pikeman yet!) If it does, that's a definite benefit, albeit small.

Failing that...

"But pikemen just suck now...," well, from what little I've been able to read of the pike forum so far, you may be right. But, there are 250 skill points when you start, so there are other options. What combinations of pikeman and another profession have been successful? Pistoleer can obviously lay the smack down compared to many professions, so maybe a complementary ranged weapon would be a good augmentation to someone who is already skilled with a dowel rod of doom.

Just some random thoughts instead of actual honest-to-goodness, "yeah, I should get paid for this" typework.
