Heyas.

I was wondering, why would I take pikeman over the other melee classes? What are their strenghts and weak points?

Tzitzimime - Creature Handler and Pikeman since the beginning.
I continue to play this game out of love for my professions.

When the "New Game Enhancements" go live, I will leave this game.
You can give it a pretty name, but it does not hide your shame...

"I mean, what is a pikeman and why is it something in the game? The only other profession we didn't absorb into one of these iconic templates is the creature handler and only 1% of our players play that character type."

Only reason to be a Pikeman now is for looks.. It's like being a Gnome Warrior on EQ. Just looked funny. =P

Current reasons tochoose pikeman:

1. self-loathing

2. self-deprecation

3. masochism

4. love of beingan under-dog

5. the hope that we will be fixed to actually be useful sometime in the future

pikeman strengths: (mostly theoretical or history at the moment)

1. at one time we were the strongest hitters of the melee classes

2. we have some of the sweetest specials and moves, by far

3. if our area attacks worked like they used to/are supposed to we are extremely valuable in groups fighting large groups of MOBs, or even solo if you get jumped by several...it's a great view seeing a pikeman take out 5 MOBs at a time, even better knocking them all down...heh...

4. action bleeds are powerful

5. our specials had good combinations like stun, dizzy, etc. that were often dealt out to multiple targets

pikeman disadvantages: (currently the harsh reality)

1. worst defense and accuracy of any combat profession

2. most-oft incapped or dead combat profession. I've fought along side TKAs against the same creature and when I got incapped, they were still not even half-HAM and finished off the creature. It's not a good feeling to have people ask you why you're incap/dead so often, even when not using specials.

3. too few of us to get any attention for fixing. we're working on this issue

4. and so on, etc. too many to list without becoming depressed

but there's always hope!

The only reason to be a pikeman now is for roleplaying reasons.

Well, I agree the roll playing oppurtunities is endless for a Pikeman, On my toon, I always make sure I have a healthy supply of Alchohol. Drealin Dreadmoon with the official guild Title of Drunken Pikeman. Really the only way I could even give a half decent reason as to why I am incapped and missing all the time, I seem to have had a little too much to drink is my answer.
