Thread: Why the Pikeman changes dissapoint me

First let me say that I'm thankfull that we are getting the changes that are on TC. CoB and the accuracy and block mods are going to help us out, no doubt.

But I can't help being dissapointed when our HAM costs are still the same, when our damage is still the same, and our toughness/melee/ranged defenses are still pretty weak.

The combat dev has 11 professions to look after. That's a huge work load, and I understand that completely. But he said that melee was at the biggest dissadvantage and that we'd be getting a significant boost. Well, everyone knows that TKA were already the best melee. I'm very happy for them that they got the changes that they're getting. But common, TKA's are only 1/4 of the elite bralwer professions. There's 3 other professions who are in need of much more boosting, not only to damage but other things as well. Fencers got some very nice defensive mods on the patch, but that still doesn't help their damage, which is very weak.

I beleive that each brawler should have something special to their class. IE the TKA meditation line. Each elite brawler class should have one special ability, like the meditation line, that really sets them apart from the others. Heck, let us use specials while on mounts....something that would make us interesting.

I'm sorry, but it's widly known that Pikeman are one of, if not the worst combat professions out there. We got very little to help us, since all the other non-hybrid combat professions got similar changes. The combat dev said he was going to increase melee damage across the board. TKAs will be doing almost double what they do now, but they're the only melee class that was changed significantly.

I'm sick of the devs thinking that fixing TKA and only TKA will fix all melee.

All resentment toward TKA aside, I'm happy that all melee got some substantial increases, I'm ecstatic that pikemen got *something*. The +block number looks impressive! I'm hoping that being able to block often will make up for having such low defenses, and we did gain some extra melee and ranged defenses, not to mention long-needed accuracy. Yes TKA widens the superiority gap even more, even better defenses, even better damage, even more skills, etc. etc...I'm trying to focus on the fact that we actually may be getting something, maybe we'll be blocking often enough to make up for low defenses. We'll just have to see.

Additionally, I'm very happy to see fencer get a lot of extra defenses and swordsmen got some good counterattack bonuses.
I hope the gap between "us" (fencers/swordsmen/pikemen) and "them" (TKA) doesn't continue on the course it has been on and at some point closes, not by TKA nerf, but by us being more competitive with them..despite the bounty hunter attitude some TKA have. If thes echanges go live, it will be a nice step in that direction.

Hey, we're getting *something* good.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm vey happy that we get what we're getting, I'm even glad that TKA is getting the boost that they need, but for the other 3, it's not the type of changes that the dev lead players to expect, which is the dissapointing aspect.

I looked at the other profession mods on TC and it seems that nearly every non-hybrid combat class received bonuses in thier block/dodge/counterattack/etc and melee/ranged defenses, so in my opinion, we didn't get the attention that was promised to melee for this patch. We didn't get the increase to damage or the increase to 10m range or the reduced HAM.

I mean, it's great we're at least getting something, but if this patch was supposed to be geared twards making melee better, well, you get the idea.
