Thread: Changing the VL schematic...quick fix for pike?

Ok. I know there is a huge melee update going in place on test center, but not having a pikeperson on TC, I do not know how it will stack up. All I know is that I have currently counterattacked more than I have blocked, amazing since my counterattack skill is ZERO. Assuming the patch still keeps us down in the ranks of melee classes, how about the following being brought up to the eyes of the combat devs...

Change the armour piercing on the VL to be medium instead of light.

That is it. Very simple. Currently the VL is effectively a waste of database space. I think I have run into 3 mobs (I haven't counted, but the number is REALLY low) in the game where the ar1 electricity outperforms the AR2 kinetic damage of a LVA. All of them you need to hunt in a large group anyways so the difference of getting 4 swings instead of 3 in doesn't make that much of a difference.

This simple change would address our accuracy issue simply because (almost) everyone uses the LVA for everything despite it's accuracy. If they gave us the crazy damage we have grown to love, in a weapon that is just a hair more accurate (almost twice as much) then we might have a reason to carry around more than an LVA and a regular old lance.

Anyone have thoughts on this specific change request? I do not want this to get too off topic (which could happen very easily due to the end of the stick the pikepeople got hit with a while ago).

VL is not a waste of database space. Use it primarily and love it.

There is a trade off between VL and LVA.

LVA pros: More Damage. More Speed. Medium Armor Piercing.

LVAcons: Higher HAM costs, More Misses, Health Pool Drain.

VL pros: Less HAM costs, Better Range, Action Pool Drain. Electric Damage

VL cons: Less Damage. Less Speed. Light Armor Piercing.

As you can see - the pros on one becomes the cons on the other they are opposite ends of the spectrum - different weapons suited for different situations.

What are the respective ranges on each weapon? I am interested in Pikeman, but know very little abou **edit** as I have been primarily an artisan/ranged fighter since launch.

VL is not a waste of space at all.

As a matter of fact i only use my LVA to hit bases and lairs cus, well u cant miss those.

I dont really see medium AP as a really good advantage as most things i hunt dont have any armour rating, just resist. When they do its just light armour.

Of course i dont hunt really big stuff cus, well u know we pikeman just cant.

Of course i would luv if they changed the LV to AP2

Sure, if there ever will bea LVA with lower speed than VL, I am going for it! But I have to see any...

BTW, I am a Novice Pikeman on Eclipse and, well, I just love my Basic Lance. Nothing beats it! What is good on LVA when you miss 70% of the time? Jesus, you can't even use specials without Buffs or you'll be dead before zou hit for the first time. I know it AP0, but it beats even VL. Of course, when Iget PA Support II, I'll switch to VL, but for now, Basic Lance is just fine.

Think about it when you cry that your LVA is missing a lot...

I don't know what server you're on Yesurb, but on Eclipse, a VL is faster than a LVA.

Yesurp....alls I got to say is that you are smoking crack. LVA does NOT have better speed than a VL. You either have a crappy weaponsmith or you can't read weapon stats...

You know that when the weapon's AP is higher than the target's AR, there is a bonus to damage. To me that pretty much means AP2 is always an advantage over AP1.

AP1 weapon hits AR0 target = +25% damage.

AP2 weapon hits AR0 target= +50% damage.

That can add up to a lot when you are using hard hitting weapons. And of course there's negatives too.

AP1 weapon hits AR2 target= -50% damage

AP2 weapon hits AR2 target= normal damage

I think all those numbers are right....but you get the idea. AP is always prefered in my opinion, it's just more damage against everything vs lower AP weapons.

A small correction. It's actually like +57% damage, because it's +25%, and then another +25% over the already +25%'ed one.
