I just noticed today that I NEVER get a "you block xxx" msg but I do get a TON of xxx tries to hit you but you counterattack then I absorb 50% of the incoming hit and never ripost ( kinda stupid it should be 50% absorb and 50% of a normal hit ripost if it worked). Anyway why do pikemen have + block but get counterattack anyway? I have defensive IV.

It's an error. In other players' combat logs it says that you block. The part about absorbing damage instead of avoiding it is...well, questionable as to whether it's working as intended or not. The great pikeman mystery, one of them at least.
