Thread: need some help with pikeman
There are several wookiee pikeMen on this forum. I even got one in my guild on Radiant, Rawook'Tk, and he does a fairly good job as master PikeMan. Alas, he is on holidays these days, like so many others are.

so theres no other wookiee pikeman on these fourms?
Ok I'm not a wookiee piker BUT I have never worn a set of armor (save for a set of gloves so I can use my polearm attachments) and I had never had one buff before I made master pikeman soI think this qualifies me to talk about your issue.
First off you say that huurtons are kicking your ass. At the level you no huurton should be anywhere near your ass. I think you must be doing huurton huntress or matron missions or something like that. Grab plain old huurton lairs they go for around 3k a pop. Now if you cant do these missions take your ball and go home cause you just suck. From a huurton lair you will get 3 plain huurtons and about 8 pups. The pups are one shot deals that are easily dealt with and the big huurton should take about 3 or 4 shots. Sweep, warcry (2 if you are master brawler) and then polearm hit 2 until the little toad is dead. These missions can be done with maybe one heal if you miss a lot or something goes wrong. Almost 2k xp per huurton. Easy as you please.
As for pikets you will NOT be able to do these alone or without buffs. Find a group of about 3 others and grab PIKET LONGHORN missions for around 12k each. Why I stress the longhorn missions is because piket plains walkers which are only 9k missions are actually HARDER to do then longhorns. When you approach the longhorn lair there is 'usually' 1 piket longhorn and 2 longhorn females. Engage the male FIRST as he is the only one who assists. The females will sit idly by whilst you lay waste to their mates for easy dispatchment later. You and your mates should split about 5k a pop for each piket. Oh and stay away from piket protectors too. They are nasty beasts who db.
I hope this helps.
Here endeth the lesson.
Wookies are at a disadvantage to begin with, but even more so as a pikeman because of the weak toughness inherent to the class. A wookie fencer or TKA will survive much more easily than a pikewook would, just for that reason alone. It is possible to master pike as a wookie, but I can't imagine how difficult it really can be sometimes.
antares
master pikeman
What lesson is that? you, you monster! LOL, no seriously, good post

General advice:
Buffs are good, and sometimes absolutely necessary. I ended up picking up doctor just so I could remain buffed at all times, and migrated my mind stats as high as they could go while allowing the buffs to fill in for the low health and action. At least some medic is an absolute necessity.
Food and spices also help a lot. This goes for every species, of course.
Personal Shield Generators are buggy and frail, but sometimes very helpful. Buy several so that when their stats hop around you can switch to one that actually protects you. I don't generally use them unless fighting something very tough, or fighting several NPCs who are going to be shooting at me, but they can be a life saver in those situations.
Keep CoB going at all times. You need all the defenses you can get.
Fighting one tough thing is always preferable to fighting a group of tough things. Pull one off whenever you can. There are also plenty of mid-level creatures that give decent XP and don't gang up on you. Falumpasets come to mind, as do certain tortons and torturs.
Friends or pets to distract enemies or soak up some of the damage help quite a bit. The same goes for NPCs. Trick those imperials into chasing you into the nearby spawn of rebels, or vice versa.
Intimidate and warcy are your friends. Wookieeroar also intimidates, and seems to miss far less often (but is really only usable once every 5 minutes or so).
Accept that you're still going to die plenty, but revel in the fact that even if your clothes all decay to nothing you're a wookiee and nobody will really care.
Really none of this is all that different from what any other pikeman has to deal with. You just don't have the option of standing there in uber-armor and whacking away. Just use some strategy and do what works for you (which isn't necessarily always killing pikets and huurtons) and you'll be just fine.
