I am a scout and I took up polearms for fun cause I like spears and staves. Are they actually any good?

Well I started on a pikeman earlier, altho i really like it there seems to be a lack of weapons, I'm getting closer and closer to mastering polearm to go onto pike...but i can't seem to find anthing better than the renforced polearm.. other than the lack ofstronger and better polearmsI really liked this profession.

I have dueled 33 times, i have counted and only lost one to a very good marksmen that ran like crazy.I have never lost a melee. In fact i dont even recall being close to dying agaist a melee.

How have you been so successful in duels with the pike? Last I looked (in beta) knockdown only does 1/2 points and you couldn't swing will running after kiters.

If you like poles & staves, I say, you should be a pikeman. Do what you enjoy - that's what it is all about. Sure, as we progress, we'll be able to do our share of damage. If you want to pick a profession that can do the most damage, well, polearms will take some work. But, if you want to have fun, develop the character how you want to develop him/her, and it will be a better reward in the end.

I want to be a pikeman, because I also think lances, spears, polearms, and weapons like that are great. Also you know how cool it would look to see a unit of mounted pikemen charging at the enemy at full gallop. That would look great.
