Thread: Looking for a bit of advice...
I have finally gotten all the scouting and tapping xp out of the way and need only frontiering 3 and 4 to get master ranger. Now that I dont need to grind scouting xp i have been going to other planets to do some hunting...mainly talus. Can anyone tell me the best way to pull an animal? I have spend 98% of my time on corellia where relativly few animals are social and now that I am hunting on talus I am getting my butt handed to me by most of the creatures unless I use one of my pets to tank for me. I'd really like to get out of the habit of always using a pet to tank for me and be able to pull a creature without all the others around it going aggro on me. I have yet to figure out an effective method, does anyone have any hints or ideas? I use a carbine if that makes a difference. Any help would be most appreciated...

If the creatures you hunt are stalkers, make a circle within 64m around the nest. You will get the attention of a few of the critters and they will move out to see what is up, dividing the pack.
Unfortunately, I find that this works Best with maskscent up. In my experiance, maskscent tends to draw creatures to me instead of disguising me. ![]()

You can sometimes do something similar without mask scent to normally non-stalking creatures. I think the aggressiveness rating has something to how likely they are to take interest in you. Watch the ? above their head and when it turns to a ! they might actually start to follow you. This can be a lot more pains-taking and slow than with a stalking creature and isn't guaranteed to work (I spent hours one time playing with pulling mountain Ikopi).
I think the maskscent actually can make the creatures more "curious" as I often don't see the ? or ! come up at all or at-least till just before it pounces on me, but they still tend to follow my scent.
Another hint is that if a stalker is following your scent and you are afraid it is about to detect you and pounce, hit some water and it will lose the trail. This may even work with a stalker stalking non-maskscented people as I led an expedition on Dantooine and I was the only one maskscented at the head of the pack but it appeared that the stalker (hurrton) was following one of the people at the back of the line but had not started attacking yet and I led the group to swim across a small lake and the hurrton left us alone (we weren't in any shape to engage).
what would be the best paying missions to do? reason is i want to save up and get a full set uf uber comp armor with 80% to kinetic so i can fight alot more things with ease...thanks in advance
Well...I've been killing savage quenkers on Dantooine... a bit over 3k XP for each I think, and if you take the missions from an Improved Job Market, they're worth about 7900 creds each. They're pretty easy to kill.
Then again, I'm a wookiee so you might be able to do better. ![]()
Small enraged rancor groups are great cash... I can make 100k in a few hours with a good group, as long as it's not -too- huge (around 4-5 people). To get them, get a giant group together, so you're able to pull them.. then split the group in half.
Of course, getting that group together is kind of a pain... guildchat is your friend.
The only thing that makes these a bit of an annoyance is the occasional droideka that spawns with them. They kite constantly, but you should be able to knock them down and warcry them to at least slow their retreat.
What you'll generally find is 2-3 NPCs, usually one has 8-10k HAM and the others a little less. They all have fairly high kinetic resists, but a VL will slice right through them. On occasion, replace an NPC with a droideka, gurk, or kusak. Droidekas are the toughest of the bunch due to their kiting, but are susceptible to state effects, knockdown, and even poison. Most of the others won't run at all once you're in melee range.
I don't remember if you have a dizzy move or not. If so, it helps a lot. Without one I seem to recall them being a little tricky.
