Thread: Speaking of repairing...

Does anyone else burn through lances? I find myself going through about one LVA a day. (Hitting condition 1 in the middle of an NS zerg isn't very fun, lemme tell ya.) I've taken to carrying several with me at a time, so I can just switch to a new one if the old one dies. (The ones I am currently using are 1074 duration.) Do certain specials increase the decay rate?

Specials increase the decay rate, as do Powerups.

Powerups really are the killer.

If some specific specials are worse then others? Who knows. I would be curious to that myself.

Do you carry Weapon Repair Kits? Lately, I been fairly lucky with them. I carry around 99% kits and I almost never totally destroy the item.

Slicing also speeds decay. I know that a piece of Comp Chest armor that got a 41% enc slice decayed in about 5 days of hunting on dath and endor. My next piece (same smith and run) only got a 24% slice and it lasted significantly longer.

one has nothing to do with the other. I'm going to assume the 24% slice was a base effectiveness slice, yes? If so, then that is why the chest seemed to decayed faster. Also, the chest peice is ALWAYS the hardest hit in PvE.

BTW, the decay rate for armor looks like this - the amount of un-absorbed damage is subtracted from the condition.

So if you are wearing 80% kinetic armor, and a MOB hits you for 1000 points of damage, the damage that hits you is 200, and that's how much condition you lose. Now, same MOB hits you while wearing 60% Ubese, you now get hit for 400 points of damage, and you lose 400 points of condition. So, in fact, slicing your armor extends the life of your armor. Try to find a set of pre-sliced 90% base armor, and compare that to a 60% base armor. Trust me, it'll last longer.

I'm pretty sure that armor abosrbs what it blocks, not what passes through. So in your example the 80% would loose 800 for a 1000 hit, the 60% would loose 600 for the same 1000 hit. Now in my case both were 80% kinetic (from the same run even) so the 24% eff slice had no effect on the kinetic protection. That is why I was saying that a higer slice makes it decay faster. I could be wront though, I have not read up on armor since september

If armor decay was based on how much damage it absorbed you'd need a new chestplate after 5 minutes in front of an NS Elder.

Oberon's description is correct, armor decay is based on how much damage is allowed past the armor. A high effectiveness slice on armor will see it last a lot longer since it allows less damage through.

As to special attacks that cause damage to weapons, the only one I do know that will cause faster decay is overcharge shot. , but you're hardly likely to use that with a pike.

No, I don't carry repair kits. I've tried repairing various equipment at least 30 times, maybe more. I've succeeded twice. All the rest were failures. As for slicing increasing the decay, not with mine. I've been going through them so fast I don't bother getting them sliced. I went through 2 yesterday, 1 in just a few hours while I was slaying Nightsisters. It's just bugging me, and I wondered if it was normal.

Someone mentioned p-ups increase the decay rate. That may be what it is, as I make sure I'm always "loaded," as it were. Also, I spam spinattack and polearmhit like crazy.

Actually, I think you're both wrong lol, I had a suti of Ubese survie over an hour of Krayt tanking, and I had only lost 6k condition. I GUARANTEE it blocked more than that. That or I'm a sploiter

I think the rate of decay is based on how much damage is being let through, I know my composite chestplate will take lose a bigger chunk when a Nightsister hits me for 1100 dmg compared to when her being intimidated and doing 213 dmg. I doubt slicing increases decay, I have had sliced and unsliced weapons and armor decay at around the same rate, but when I add a powerup it will decay much quicker.

As for the repairs, try repairing BEFORE your armor drops below 50% condition but I seem to have a higher success rate on repairing ubese compared to padded and composite which are always marginal or blemish.

its definatly damage let through. I have a pair of 80% kin legs and a 89% chest and the chest decays at just over half the speed of the legs even though its being hit more often.

Case closed on that front

Do you really have that bad luck with repairs? Every weapon I've had I use till its at low condition and then repair (just in case it breaks I'll have got good useage out of em) and have only had a couple break ever... maybe im just lucky?
