Im a new brawler and im having difficulty choosing which way to go with a Elite prof. Ive narrowed it down between Pikeman and Swordsman but i cant choose between the two. Im looking to do damage more than anything else as opposed to speed or stuff like that, and PvP i have no interest in doing. Can someone tell me what Pikeman is all about and why be one? Any help or opinions are appreciated.

pikeman = PvP

swordsman = PvE

Only those with millions to spend on DOT's say that pikeman isPVP and swordsmen PVE, in my experience it's the other way around, most players don't have that kind of money nor the time to go camp NS on Dathomir all day long.

ForPvE:

Wehaveour area KD, we are the only profession who can KD more than one opponent at once, we even have an area dizzy (not sure swordsmen get it) and stun;

We attack the action pool, in PvP this sucks, in PvE this doesn't matter, the critter/NPC will lose its legs as fast as its head;

Granted we don't have Blast damage, but we do get Electricity damage (bye bye droideka)and the lucky few even have Energy damage;

Swordsmen do more damage, but in my experience we are faster unless they use a scythe (that they advice only to use for PvP or so I read on their boards);

We are at our best while tanking a lair and knocking 10+ critters/NPC's on the floor at once.

For PvP:

Swordsmen do tons of mind damage without having to camp NS for hours on end (I get tired of that very fast);

We still have our area attacks but not enough damage output to get through buffs and armor;

Our (main)damage types are the main resists on comp: kinetic and electricity;

All we have is DOT's which either cost a lot of money or take hours of time to getthat I'd rather spend doing something fun;

Another disadvantage to DOT's is while you are stacking those things on them by switching weapons every 5s that swordsman is knocking your head off with his scythe or powerhammer.

Apokryphos try using a profession instead of just grinding your way through it before you come here with advice. I'm still using a bought pike and have gotten at least 10 people on the pikeman wagon without the need for an 700+ damage pike (though I admit it would be nice to have one, it's not a necessity).

the swordsman area attack is a dizzy/posture change attack^

As far as which prof to go, if you want all out power you need to go swordsman but pikeman is more fun imo

I was thinking of changing to pikes from fencer on my melee guy, swordsman just seems boring and everyone is one so thats out of it

Since they "fixed" fencer's scatter hit they just cant do enough damage against buffs and armor in PVP and good DOTs for 1 handed are rare, plus they are probably the worst profession for PVE.

Cant decide :/

Ah thanks, well I still think area KD followed by area dizzy/stun is better (mostly because KD has a more useful effect on critters than posture change)

i find that pikeman is more fun, but swordsman is more useful in pve except for DWB, or the Vette (electricity).

i was thinking of doing pike/sword, but i checked out the defensive modifiers and i gave up on that idea.
