I'd go for 4000 first, possibly getting a defense box for x010 somewhere along the ride. Then continue to 4040 for the melee and state defenses. go for 4440 last. And ofcourse, learn the combat xp boxes when you can

Speed will help youa lot, therefore I recommend the 4000 tree

Which side of the tree to level first.

I'm thinking 4/4/0/0 initially for the speed and extra attacks, then finish up to master.

or

4/0/0/4 for the speed and accuracy, then finish out the rest.
