Let me give a little background first. I just became a master pikeman, and let me say I really like this profession. I picked up pikeman for my PvE profession, something that it seems to be very good at. I had been a master swordsman, but I really wasn't wild about it. I hated the animations. I know that might sound wierd, but I like to see good animations when I fight. (which is the main reason I like fencer) Anyway, I heard pikeman have cool animations and were pretty good in PvE, so I thought I'd try it. I have to say I was not let down by the animations. I know pikeman has a lot of problems, but overall it is a fun profession. The other day I was dueling some people for fun and thought I'd see how damage was with pikes (I had heard that pvp damage for pikes was bad). I didn't realize how bad it was. I was hitting for 7 damage with my LVA using leghit3. Granted I was intimidated so that takes off 50% damage, which means I could have been doing 14 damage without being intimidated.........ouch, that's a real kick in the groin!
My question is this: As a master swordsman, I was able to do approximately 100 damage with my kinetic damage, AP2 scythe with approximately 400 max damage with headhit3......why is it with my kinetic damage AP2 LVA with 500 max damage I only do 14 damage with leghit3? (both headhit3 and leghit3 seem to have similar damage modifiers) My guess would be the fact that mitigation affects the LVA more, but does mitigation have that much of an affect?
Could anyone explain to me why there is such a huge difference in damage on two weapons that are so similar?
Let me say that this is not something that makes me want to quit the profession. I genuinely enjoy this profession and would not drop it for this reason. I just don't pvp enough for it to matter, I was just interested in the reasoning behind this since I don't fully understand.
Thank you in advance.

Two things: leghit3 has a lower damage multipler, and mitigation does affect the LVA much more than the scythe. Combine those two, and you have the problem.
Take an average player-crafted LVA, 110-370. Now, against someone with melee mitigation 3, the damage becomes 110-214. Large difference. That's an average post-75%-pvp reduction leghit3 (2.5 multiplier) damage of 101.25, 126.5 with the AP2 bonus. If the other player had 80% kinetic composite, that is 20.25, 25 with the AP2 bonus. Under intimidation, half of that.
If you have a looted LVA with a greater min-max difference, you'll see similar results.

Yeah, you know, I didn't even factor in the toughness...so, if the opponent was TKM, you can deduct another 57% off that final number. Heh, now, most LVAs/VLs have higher damage numbers, so the values aren't so abysmal, but they're not great by any means, either.

It is very hard for most pikemen to hold their own vs tkm and fencers. We do marginally better vs swordsmen and other pikemen, but that is mostly because of lack fostate defences. As a pikey in pvp you always have to hope for a landed dizzy from area2, followed by as many posture change moves you can come up. Also as a friendly reminder, dont use hit3 once they are kded, itll bring them out of it. Another thing, once you are blinded by a fencer, you almost have no chance, youll acc will drop to almost next to nothing.

The thing with Pikeman is that for PvP you have to use completely seperate strategies depending on the person you are fighting. First off, no matter what, you need to keep your opponent intimidated since pikes are incredible inaccurate. You will not hit a Swordsman or Fencerthat isusingCoB even if you have capped accuracy unless they are intimidated.
Secondly, melee mitigation eats up LVAs (which is the main PvP weapon of choice for direct damage). You cannot use even highlevel LVAs against TKs or Fencers. My 1800 max dmg LVA doesn't even do much. That is where DoTs come into play. Against another melee'er your best bet is to DoT them up.
