Thread: Melee and high end creatures.

Have you guys noticed how ineffective melee profs are against really high end creatures now ? It seem anything over lvl 100 is instant death, no matter if your COB is running or if you have great armor. Our tanking abilities do not seem to count for much. The only way to stay alive is to stay away from the creature and kite. In order to do that you need to be ranged (rifle is great) and have rooting capabilities. I understand you can not solo high end mobs anymore, but we should be able to tank if we have healers and backup. We go down in one to two hits now. It seems like end game mob is reserved for ranged profs now.

I find it quite hard to solo/tank high end creature mobs (like level 81+), however NPCs seem to be MUCH easier and they always seem to drop quicker too, just what I have noticed

Very true.
If we are not prime in crowd control, then why say we are? We need some sort of Area Intimidate or Area Stun at Master level.
Also, how are we to be crowd controlers if the entire crowd is all ranged?
I understand the meaning of the balance, but melee is nothing like before. Its true guns should kill you from a distance, but their needs to be a better balance. Melee weapons only reach up to 5 meters base. Its like all melee classes should have some form of close assault bonus. What good are we if a 1000+ damage rifle is popping us in the head at 60 meters away or a Jedi is throwing his sabre at us?
Its almost like we should get some form of a projectile lance or energy projection battle-staff at Master level. Think about it, the Ewok's with their melee skills use slings and bow & arrows.

I posted the same thing on the Brawler forums. I've actually been turned down as a canidate for a group going together to take on Grevious because they know that melee can't do anything useful unless your a Jedi

I wouldnt Necessarily say that melee can't do anything in battle. I can tank quite well, and I can probably out dmg a MLS and often out damage some ranged proffessions too.

Sure we do fine against level 80-84 mobs or so, maybe even can tank a level 86 krayt with a good doc or two, but the higher level creatures and npc's that people are opting to group up and fight now... kill us melee in a single blow or two... so we're basically useless against these high-level creatures.

i think this is a balance problem that eventually will be fixed... i remember those 198 lvl huf duns in talus lol... but the got a balance pass

Well, yes and no.
Pikeman are particularly ineffectual against Grievous/Necrosis. You can't stun droids, nor can they be intimidated.
Having said that, I've killed him 3 times so far with just one Jedi Knight (not a master defender) as my sole groupmate. Our low damage means I almost never grab aggro, so he kites and saberthrows while I chase lunging repeatedly, armorbreaking any chance I can, and warcrying for the hell of it. When the lunge KD's him I hit impale. Actually quite easy, we take him down in about 10 minutes.
I am of course not the primary damage dealer, nor am I even a tank in a true sense. What I am is a debuffer, and what little support I'm able to provide with these skills makes killing him possible.
Not to say we don't need improvement, just trying to give you an argument to get into a Necrosis group

I agree, if we are going to be the tanking profession, we need to be able to tank anything in the game at least sufficient enough such that 2 or 3 docs healing us can keep us alive. Being 1-hit by anything >95's with as many high level creatures around pretty much negates our profession. If ranged can take on these creatures, then they don't need us for the creatues we can actually take anyway.

All those 90+ mobs need to get their damage scaled down. it is posible to kill any high level melee mob if you are ranged, but very hard for melee.
There is one mob that I dom't understand how anyone can kill, those level 194 SBDs. I was on corvette solo yesterday with my jedi and the SBDs they hit for 5k+. SInce they are ranged it is not even possible to do them ranged. They are impossible AFAIK
