Thread: Melee hopes and dreams, various ideas.
Hey all, just throwing out some ideas at you all, not that I actually think any of this will happen.
Fencer: While I agree that this art was taught for along time as a way to settle disputes between gentlemen, there is an even more pressing reason why this style began to be trained in the first place. You focus on fighting with one hand for one reason only: to free the other hand for combat. This could be a shield, which we know exists because the gungans used a form of them, or it could be another sword or main gauche. This isn't so farfetched as it may seem, the double sword style has popped up in many cultures across the world over thousands of years, and of course, there is precedent for this style as well, when Anakin uses it. (Albeit briefly)
Pikeman: Balance this class to be defensive over offensive. Going from tka to pike in terms of defense/attack inversion doesn't make as much sense. I know that part of this is already being implemented on tc in the form of +block, but it also should be adressed in the form of our weapons too. Higher damage should be replaced with increased accuracy.
Swordsman: If any class deserves to be offensive minded, its these guys. By holding the weapon with both hands, you place your entire emphasis on landing hard blows as quickly as possible. Readjust the weapons to reflect this, perhaps they should be the only melee class with a heavy armor piercing weapon.
TKA: Sorry, cant think of any improvements that could possibly be made.
Melee in general: How about a smoke device? Something that makes it harder to see us and really give us a chance to close the 50+m to a target. And of course, ranges that accurately reflect our weapon lengths. Ah well these are just dreams after all.
Mounts: Im sorry to say, but certain classes seem to call for an elite mounted class. These are Pikeman, and Fencer. Some argument could be made for pistoleer, as their balance issue on a mount is significantly less than any class that holds its weapon in both hands. The other classes will still be allowed to have standard attacks as is currently implemented, but the elite mounted classes could add new specials that were possible while mounted.
Just a few ideas, though I know a lot of this will never happen, ![]()

I'm curious about the mount issue.
They say you can attack from the mount (no specials), so if you have a gun, ok. Guns have at least a 35m range. We have a 5m (on a good day) range. The mount will have to be standing on the target, and hopefully the target wont move.
Yes, jousting would solve some of that. But jousting is a pike dream, and if we might enjoy it, then it definitely won't be implimented.
Even without jousting, I would like to be able to run down the target, and trample it underfoot.
I like the smoke idea, maybe a 'Pikeman Duststorm'.
id love to see the pikeman ones though
Actually carbineers should be the best ranged profession mounted, because carbines were originally used by the US Cavalry in the Civil War. Its essentially a smaller rifle thats easier to fire from horseback(and to reload). Pistols didnt pack enough punch, even though they can be used mounted decently.
Pikemen in the true sense shouldnt be able to "joust" or use pikes from mounts, because pikes are mainly defensive weapons and used by infantry to counter cavalry. However since they get a "lance" (which really isnt a pike..) that would work.
The rest looks good though. The professions really need distinct roles, right now they are all essentially the same, with a few standing out as the "best"(TKA).
Carbines might indeed be a better choice, but its certainly debateable. The real problem comes with the need to create a stable platform on which to hit targets at longer ranges. Mounts have ideal advantages throughout history for exactly the reason which kuari was talking about, they are dangerous up close. This dictation towards closeness lends the mount to melee weapons but only a few, 1h and polearm. Police forces throughout the world have long used mounts as crowd control and indeed, pay close attention the next time you watch episode1 during the Gunga City scene. The gungan "police" uses kaadu for this purpose, and the weapon of choice is: a lance. Im not suggesting that the others not be allowed to attack, but that these particular be given a new elite class on which to build upon their mounted fighting abilities. (Including specials that can be performed while mounted) And while Im thinking about it, I left one out:
Pikeman: Change our posture! I hate the fact that rifleman and carbineers stand at attention naturally looking completely cool, whereas we hold our weapon so completely limp (and in everyones way). If any of us in rl had a six foot pole as our primary weapon, we would stand it up and practically use it as a third leg. At the very least, give us an option to be more guardlike and at attention.
