Thread: The Holo said WHAT?
So... as you might have guessed, I have to master pikeman. I was wondering what people had devised as the best strategy for mastering this profession quickly.
I understand that this is not an easy grind, becuase pikeman is completelybusted. I'm looking for a briefing on what to expect, and some solutions for any problems I might have.
Thanks guys, I'm gonna browse and see what I can learn on my own, but I know everyone has their pet peeves, so leats hear em.
May be easier than you think.
My Holo also said Pikeman and I'm quite enjoying myself.
Grind up to Novice killing whatever you can then start killing larger prey. You'll probably need Medic skills and a pet helps too.
got to Brawler 3 and headed to dant with my Graul and not having a problem at all
Decied that I'm problely going to get mch as well as the MP as I was a lot nearer that than Dr
Pikeman is a great profession for all its flaws. I was 2 boxes away from master when I dropped all my melee to become a squad leader (was also a swordsman, halfway to master there). Funny that I've picked up melee again... hehe
My suggestions to the holo-pikes:
Pet is a better tank, remember that.
Only use an LVA when the mob has medium armor.
Only use a Vibro Lance when the mob is vulnerable to electricity.
Find a good standard lance (something with a max dmg of about 260 is decent, anything higher is great) go to a master smuggler, and pray for a dmg slice.
Get action hits 1 & 2 ASAP, and always use them first.
Spam the leg hits after that.
Don't fight people with guns, you'll lose when they run.
make good friends with a medic, or be one yourself, you'll be doing more damage to yourself (on a HAM vs HAM percentage) than to a mob.
Find some Melee powerups that reduce HEALTH cost. Screw max Damage, you need to stay alive, and you do plenty of damage.
Pikets are the way to high xp... Seriously
Anyway, some of the pikes here may disagree with me, but these are my opinions based on my stint into the pikeman profession.
I will be back as soon as they fix accuracy modifiers.
you're not that bad off. I love playing pike, wouldn't give it up. As for grindnig, I'm going up this much faster than I did tka. You should go up the brawler bars fairly quickly. I think i did it in about 3 days of casual play (not grinding). Pick up a good pet, if you have a few bars of ch, a desert razor back is awesome 7500 ham, so it can take all the beating you're not getting. Make friends with some one going up medic, he will keep you alive and you will drop big game, both of you will make out in xp.
Tat is my planet of choice
Good animals to fight, high brawler- eopie, then desert eopie when you can about 500 xp for regular and 800-1000 for desert
pike novice-bantha, ronto, normal dewbacks- you'll get 1000 plus xp for all of these
Pike novice at this point I jumped to talus and the Huf dun are good, 1200-2000 xp a peice and they spawn a lot. At this point you may want to group up with some more people, but don't worry, since your attacks will do a lot more dammage then theirs you will still get most of the xp and the mass amount of shots hitting a creatrue usually confuse it a bit as to who to attack.
This is about where I am with pike. Its going to be one of my chosen professions so I don't want to rush up the skill tree too fast, but with casual play its comming a lot faster than when I was trying to grind pistoleer and TKA.
Dont fight guys with guns???
Some of my best hits are on guys with guns. Especially if they are shooting at something else. Even better if they are kneeling, outstanding if they are prone.
I have the benefit of being an armorsmith (and the misfortune of not having CH) I should probably use my C Gurreck while i still can. Even so, my suit of comphas resists of 70%+ effon all pieces, gloves are 100%, and I can wear with 100 points in all secondary pools, so I'm not too worried about death, especially if i get some buffs.
Wondering more about which trees contain useful skills that I should get ASAP, and which ones I should leave until last. Whoever dumped the info down about weapons, thanks, I'll get a crate of each from my weaponsmith guildmates and hope to get a good slice.
Generally, the recommendation is to get Defensive first, then go stances and then offensive. I'd say defensive until you get actionhit1, then get leghit2, then continue with defensive followed by stances.

I suggest always useing the vibro axe, mine has max damage of 495 and 4.3 speed. It hits hard, the vibro lance is not all that good, I use th axe hunting and get twice as much exp as when I use the lance (in a group). If you hit something with no armor with a vibro axe you do 156% damage (you get 25% more damage for every level of armor above the mob's that you can pierce).
I see 3000 damage over head and only see 1800 in the combat screen, that is great.
Pets pets pets... I can solo kungan's with 2 graul maulers (i know it really isnt solo) and get over 3k a kill * 3 average per base, +400 for the base = 9.4k exp per missoin and 40k creds. You cant beat that with a stick! Just avoid the rock crushers as they have 100% resist to both kinetic and electrical.
mmmm...
light armor (better than GSP) and more hp than the krevol.
hope it helps you on your way
