No, not asking, "OMG I hate teh pikemenz, tell me to do it quic plz! k thx"

I like the job so far. The huge inaccuracy of the weapons is somewhat of an issue, but I don't miss as much as I imagined I would be. I've found so far that leveling melee classes is much different than ranged. I am much more proned to getting aggroed by social creatures without take cover and my range isn't so great. I've had to developsome new tricks.

I have scout mastered so I've been using those to control the SEs before I learn the cooler special moves in the pikeman tree. I also get a accuracy bonus versus creatures in hunting II. I have found that, instead of trying to take on harder creatures toe to toe, I have done much better per hour taking on lairs of easier creatures. Spin attack in particular works well on a lair. Kaadu lairs, particularly random spawned ones, are great experience for me at my level (only 0-0-1-0 pike right now and close to mastering brawler). I can drop about 5-6 lairs in half an hour or so unbuffed by using spin to tear down all the thunder coming down on me.

I figured, if I am gonna pull heat anyways, I may as well pull everyone and slap them all silly simuntaneously. So yeah... enjoying it so far. It's been a fun change of pace for a former bounty hunter.

What has your pike experience been so far?

So far I've enjoyed it...more-so than pistols. Ever since I started my character, I've been a strictly ranged fighter...Then I picked up TKA, and then Pike, and now I'm dropping ranged altogether...

I really enjoy pike; the move animations, the damage types...and the new title change to Sentinel is awesome.

The only thing that bugs me about pike is this....ALL of the best pikes are looted. I've yet to see a crafted pike that I couldn't loot with the same or better stats from a nightsister....it just seems wrong in a crafting based enconomy...but other than that, pike is a blast...

I have some faith in Gunman to have that issue addressed. But yes... that is a big deal.

When you're as jaded and cynical as I am, faith is first thing you lose.

i just recently picked up pike, and i gotta say, it's a HUGE change of pace from other professions i have done (smuggler, CH, BH, pistoleer, carbineer, etc. etc.) with still being master pistoleer, i have actually been able to loot qute a few decent polearms for my path to master pikeman. most are not as good as what i've seen crafted by top WS, but good enough. it's a big difference combat wise from ranged, but i like it so far, change of appearance from seeing me stand there and have red streams behind blaster bolts. i just hope the combat balance helps pikemen come anywhere near the damage output/defense of a TKM

I've gotta say that so far this is my favorite combat profession of all, but I think it also has a lot to do with personality. I really enjoy being a tank, and I can do that with pikeman (with canapes, steaks and brandy and a decent regular buff, especially with a mind buff, too!). Last night I was doing enraged rancor groups and had four rancors on me at once, and if one went to a group-mate I'd just taunt the little bugger back on me and spin attack away to keep them on me...massive exp for me and loot because I was the closest to the rancors and could loot before anyone else! Picked up a lot of bile, teeth and padded armor segments.

Also, I've found that because there seem to be less pikemen (and pikewomen, though I have seen only a couple) than other combat professions, the clothing and armor attachments seem to be cheaper than for, say, TK or Rifelman.

Am I a bit miffed about how often I miss? Not really, personally, because as long as I get a decent buff and eat some canapes, steaks and brandy, I can tank for a LOOOOONG time so even though it may take me longer to kill a rancor, I can kill bag nitches by the bucketful for more exp because I can tank them in a group and kill them in a group. Throw in a mind buff and even though I'm only 1/0/2/2 Pikeman I can go in almost any non-masters-only party out there (I can kill Nightsister stalkers in groups of three but haven't gone for Nightsisters themselves yet).

All-in-all I'm delighted (yes, delighted) to be a pikeman. Some of it is the mystique, as well...not many people know what I can do, and when I do it (tank, taunt in groups and area attack to keep them on me so others can kill, kill, kill) I get a lot of "glad you're on our side!" and "thanks for taking that mutant ER off me...I thought I was a goner!" comments from group-mates.

As for weaponry, I'm not a master yet, so I can't speak about the uber-weapons, but for a low-level pikeman I've picked up a couple of good NS lances and other lances as well as a really good Vibro-axe from Tortilla, so my arsenal is doin' alright, though I would like to see them open up the schematics for more uber weapons for weaponsmiths to craft. I wonder, however, if SOE only thinks they know what a pikeman can do, and they haven't really done it much, otherwise I think they'd have opened up the weapon schematics a bit more. It seems to me (inexperienced as I am and there are a lot of other more-experienced folks on this forum who can speak at length with more authority on this subject) that SOE conceived of a pikeman as a slow tank who can dish out massive quantities of damage...and to a whole group of mobs/players...so they have limited the weapons so we don't get out of control. It seems like that concept has not been shown to be false for them...the pikeman is not as uber as they intended it to be...hence, they have not released the hounds (so-to-speak) on the weapon schematic. How do we show them the error of their ways? I dunno. Sorry.

If I could be a jedi-pikeman, I would. I must confess that the only reason I started pikeman was because it is my third holo-grind, but I'm finding it to be a profession I may give up the holo-grind to stick with...at least for now! So there ya are...my two-cents.

That's my story and I'm stickin' with it... /endRave;
