Hi I just got polearm4 and read the levelling stickies. I've been using a basic lance 2.7 speed 50-260 with speed powerup. Is this a good weapon to be using for now, more importantly, can I do razor cat missions unbuffed? If not what else should I be levelling on? I've just been doing dune banthas on Tatooine for the last couple of boxes
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. This is a very slow grind as I keep missing a lot and I'm very slow (this is the fastest polearm weapon I've seen so far) and spinattack1 doesn't seem to be pulling in the xp like pointblankarea1 does for marksman

you pike is fine to grind with. Speed is a key factor in pikeman, especially for grinding. I personally use a 1.7 spd lva for grinding. You can do any missions unbuffed. You need medic and if you have medic then you can do any missions unbuffed. once oyu get and area attack this proff goes really fast. i did it in like 3 days. and i really didnt spend much time on it. Goodluck!!

Thanks for the reply,
I have medic (going doc/pikeman) and I just found a vendor for a speedsliced LVA on the forums. The low minimum damage is a real pain and makes killing mobs very slow (I love the animations!! best in the game imo). I need to find critters that don't db, haave low kinetic resists and don't intimidate or I'll never get novice.I think I badly needa 1.7 speed LVA from what you suggested and from what I've read in the stickies, but by the time I found one I could have got the 125k xp from using the lance.
wish me luck

I'd really recommend against a 1.7 speed LVA at your level, seeing as the only way you could get one would be from looting it and it would have the absymal -45 range modifiers.
A normal crafted LVA can be sliced down to about 2.9 speed and will have range mods about -25 or so.

Personally, I seem to recall killing a lot of torturs on Talus at around your level.
Amazing how common it is to swing a 6-foot pole at a giant turtle and still not hit it.

I'm grinding pikes right now. I've been using Mountain Squill, Tuskens, and Quenkers to grind. XP goes QUICK in the squill cave.

For me the grind from Polearms 4 to Novice Pikeman was the most tedious. Stick with your fast lance though. Once you hit Novice Pike you can switch to a VL, if you get it speed sliced too you'll see a big difference over the original lance. Once you hit x/x/x/2 and get Accuracy +30 try out the LVA.

Thanks for the advice Kivrin and yes I agree this is the most tedious grind ever to novice. Last night was tough, especially playing unbuffed, by the time you clear a lair, heal, miss, heal, miss, miss , heal, my BF was getting so high I could only heal a couple of hundred points at most. I've still got about 80k xp to go, so I might grind medic up a bit so I can use better stims, but I'll prolly end up buffing at Cnet and finding some non-DB'ing mobs
