"While I'm at it, might as well ask: What is defining of a Pikeman? DPS? Good Defence?"
For pvp? DOT's
For pvp? DOT's

Currently I am a Master Pikeman/Master Medic and working on master Doctor. The combo of pike and healig skills is awesome during PvE. Tanking on a GDK is far easier with just the heals and when I get disease curing abilites, GDK hunts will be that much more fun.
It's a great combo, IMO, since it allows to soak up tons of damage and heal yourself with a second thought. It's also nice when you have another tanker with you, keeping them healed up as well as doing damage to whatever you are tanking on.
Pike is about damage and wounding. We have pretty good defenses and when using high kinteic resist Ubese or Comp, we can tank on pretty much anything out there.
Pikeman is extremely fun to play and the moves are almost dance like. IMO, pike has the best combat animations of all the melee professions. If you decide to go, getting Master Pikeman is worth the time and effort.

So true. Pike isn't great for PvP, so DOTs are a must. For everything else, DPS is top priority. Get an LVA and VL with good speed and range mods, then slice them 6 ways from Sunday.

good for pve
decent for pvp : youll have no dizzy/posture chance/kd ect defence. also your ranged and melee defense are like 30-40ish
so a decent ranged can kill u even when you have full buffs easily he doesnt even need buffs..

Heh. With the armor available in the game these days a novice entertainer can tank pretty much anything out there too.
If you ask me the defining characteristic of pikeman isn't DPS, and it sure as hell isn't DoTs. It's area attacks. The area dizzy/area kd combination is very powerful.
Regardless, pikeman/doc is a very good combination. Pretty much everything goes well with doc.

So, I'm a Master TKM/Master Doc right now, and admittedly loving it...but then I started looking at a profession I'd never thought about: The Pikeman. I started noticing that I really liked the look of Pikeman weaponry (especially as compared to that crappy VK I've gotten SO bored with heh)...so I was curious if anyone thought that a Doc/Pike would be a viable combo? I'm a Guild Doc, and needed pretty badly by them - so dropping that isn't really an option
.
While I'm at it, might as well ask: What is defining of a Pikeman? DPS? Good Defence?
Thanks in advance!

Given the fact that I'm working on FS experience - how well would Pike do? I like the AE attack thing - that means that I'll be getting experience pretty fast (I'd think...), but I'd like to be able to cap out the experience in the 3-week phase.
Thanks in advance, again

Pike/Doc was my first finished template. I loved it.
Are you going to be an u83r stacker? No. Are you going to have fun? Oh yeah.

HAHAHAHAHA, so very true. It's kinda sad to say that, but it is true.
The reason I mention DPS over our area attacks is due largely to the weapons and attack combos I use. I tend to use a VL more than the LVA in most PvE cases and tend to use sweep 2, spin 2, and hit 3 more than anything else. It's easy to say DPS since I connect on 9 out of 10 hits with those attacks, so pretty much any critter goes down in a hurry. I may try hunting one night using a wood staff as a curiosity thing. I may prove my own thoughts on DPS to be wrong, lol.
I will say, most of friends and guildmates love having me around as the Tank and Enforcer. The GDK hunts we did were really funny, nothing like a single pikeman knocking down a couple tons of dino meat (the thunderous earth shattering kaboom was great). The sweep and spin attacks are pretty devestaing against virtually any mob and the really big nasty critters. Those moves really define pikeman as a powerhouse (too bad we kinda get screwed on the defensive side of the house).
As for DoTs, I have a NS looted VL (not great but ok for occasional use) that has mind poison on it. I've used it like twice I think and switched over to my slower but more accurate LVA to finish the fight. DoTs, IMO, are best used in PvP instead of PvE (Krayts and GDKs get DoTs, period. LOL) since my lack of uber melee defenses prevent me from being that serious of a PvP threat. Nice thing is, as a Doc I can heal pretty much anything thrown at me and keep my self in the fight.

Not a problem. I made master Pikeman after having to spend almost all my polearm xp on training the last 2 boxes I needed (the offensive techniques). I hunted for about6 days solo and with my friends, capping my polearm xp pretty quickly. now just working on capping combat xp, lol.
