Thread: Swords or pikes??

Hey i was wandering what do you guys think take a vote....
I am Master tka and master fencer.
What do you guys choose? pikes or swords? this will be going on theswords forum also.... i hope i dont get all pikes on this forum and allswords on there forum
But give me some good reasons of why its better thenswords and maybe worse also....

The correct answer is whatever you have more fun with.
Pike is amazing, the animations rock, the profession is fun. Swords is great too. It's a tough call, but try um out in brawler and whatever makes you happy is the one to go with.

Well, this is the pikeman forum, after all.
Both have their strengths and weaknesses. Pike has superior state effects, swords do more pure damage. Pike has a lot of looted LVAs (for better or for worse), swords have Acklay hammers and scythes. Swordsmen tank better than pikemen, but pikemen can dizzy, stun, and kd very effectively.
Pikeman is more fun than swordsman if you ask me (and I play both). If you want pure power, especially in PvE, swordsman is generally the better choice. If you want to have fun, stick with pikeman.

heh kk thx you guys... ya im trying to be really well in PvP... atm im pretty good im up with thebig guys but every now and then its hard to tank...

Mox go swords, everyone is going back to pikes and driving the prices back up on sunrunner. Lol

i agree...i have almost the same template as this person... Pikeman is great in PvP vs Jedi with a couple DoT Pikes and a High Dmg LVA or VL. I have a 1053 LVA and a 1092 VL...i have hit for up to 800+ points of dmg on jedi with these pikes. I also enjoy swordsman immensely. With a 800dmg Power Hammer, you will PvP very nicely using head hit. BUT, these profs also need skill tapes to cap speed and accuracy as most looted pikes are -45 range mod and acklay hammers are -40...but like it has also been stated...you need to try them out and see what you like...i know its too late now...but when they put up blue frogs...i always go template my toons so that i can see what benefits other profs have...Pike and Swordsman can both be very strong in PvE and PvP...you just have to be patient and master your profession...and i mean that in the figurative sense not literal...learn what the attacks do...learn what the weaknesses of the professions are and learn their strengths. unless you're going to speed cap swords and get an UBER PH I'd just go with pike and use DoTs for pvp(it'd be easier)

hmmmmm..... as one of the best pikemen on sunrunner i say go swords i dont want you taintin my profession of choice!!!

but can we really use the most exceptional weapons that are avaliable to us to detemine what is good for the average player?
Swords seem to do great in PvE, and PvP at the right times, a speed capped swordsman that can lay an OK mind poison will be able to incap someone just doing 20-30 mind damage a second. . . . . .
while as a pikeman we need to lay on the DOTs thick to do any REAL damage. . . . and our highest damage hit is borked in PvP b/cause of the need to dizzy/KD, & it is our stronger damage dealing attack. . . . .
when i get in PvP i end up laying poison spamming, area 2 , KD and leghit. . . .hit 3 only makes it in if they dont fall. . . . which seems very wrong IMO

In the days ofCM'sI don't have any problems throwing down poisons and fires on people. All is fair as far as I see it.

If you are rich, I would go for Pikeman.If youhave10mil tospend on accuracy tapes, 10 mil to spend on dot weapons, and 20 mil on a 1300 damage LVA, then you can easily be beating the crap outta almost anyone you find. Especially Jedi, since they don't have mitigation and most can't heal fire. At the same time, swordsman isn't that cheap either but the exceptional dots and weapons are easier to find for pikemen off NS then for swords.
At the same time, swordsman is better for pvp just because of the high raw damage and head hit.
Either profession, I suggest getting M brawler and FS speed and accuracy to help speed cap. Still, depending on the speed of your pike, you might need more skill tapes to cap speed.
If you don't have that much money,I suggest TKM for a while. Its fairly strong and cheap to get good weapons for.
