Thread: Question about partially mastering the Pikeman profession
My plans for my character are as follows:
Master Creature Handler
Big chunk of medic
Either some Pikeman + Carbineer or some Swords + Rifleman
After CH and medic, I won't have enough points left to completely master my fighting skills. So, my question is, how effective is a Pikeman if you can only master about half of his skills? And which skills would you recommend? I'm thinking about the speed and accuracy skills, plus whatever I need to sweep my opponent(s).
In the template I am considering now, I only have 54 points to spread over Carbineer and Pikeman (i.e. 54 points after reaching novice in both). I want to take part both in PvE and PvP. I don't have to be invincible, but I want to have a decent chance and, most of all, fun.
I like the sniping abilities of the rifleman, but a good staff is just the most charming weapon in existence...

There's no point inpursuing pikeman unless you master stances. Yes, speed is that important.
Also definitely get intermediate defense unless you have another skill in another weapon that provides the ability to knockdown.
Support abilities are nice, but not essential. If you don't have them, you'll miss more, especially using a vibro weapon, but a 30% sliced regular lance is, in most situations, a superior weapon anyway. The action hit series is pretty darn useless as well except as an annoying attackin PVP.
The only reason to get the offense tree is if you want Master Pikeman. Hopefully they'll make those skills worthwhile eventually, but sweep2 and attacking while zerk'd are better ways of fighting than area2 or leghit2/3.
As far as I'm concerned offense is not a tree. But my real problem is the extra +15 to speed vs +20/+15 9not sure)to accuracy as well as the +X to toughness (we're complaining to raise it, right?)from support. Speed is nice, but add in toughness and might be better than the speed.
Then again I might know nothing since I'm not there yet, that's why I'm asking.
