Thread: BE/Pikeman checking in...

My day job is bio-engineer. I got the holo-call, and have picked upa little pikeman. I'm beginning to think the profession is a 'keeper', as a good match with BE.

As a BE, I have too few skill points to be any good at pvp. What I'm really interested in is supporting my DNA sampling trips, as well as being able to goof off occasionally and have fun hunting with friends.

DNA sampling involves walking into a crowd of nasties (such as mutant rancors), pricking them with a needle, and getting the heck out of dodge if they aggro. Pikeman's melee damage mitigation seems like just the trick for the get-out-of-dodge part. And with my Adv Ubese armour, I'm able to survive a lot of experiences that previously would have led to the cloning booth.

Anyone else taking this route of BE with a bit of pike on the side?

By the way, one BE tip... Get yourselves a form-fitting undershirt with BE tissues providing melee/stun defence. This is the easiest and cheapest way to add +4 to your melee defence. Form-fitting undershirts are the only clothing you can wear under armour.

I love pikeman and think the world of it, but honestly, if you're just looking for good defenses to get out of sticky situations, pike is probably your worst choice of the melee classes. Fencer and TKA have more than 2x the melee/ranged defense pike has and up to 2x the toughness on top of that, plus fencer has a more effective active defense (dodge vs block which allows damage still), and TKA's active defenses will be superior once they work properly.

I leveled in Novice Bio-Engineer last night. I don't follow holo's but did it since my RL wife is moving from TKM/Doc to TKM/Tailor. I will be able to supply her with cool tissues.

Anyways, I am a Master Pikeman and was on Dantooine trying out my first sampling. I was really anxious to try it out. I wasn't buffed like I usually am but didn't really think I had anything to lose if I died since I was there for laughs/experimentation.

I came across 1 Seething Bol Crusher who conned red to me. Hmmm. Why not? Got the needle out and "Stick..." He didn't really like it. He agro'd me and BAM, my machine crashed to the desktop. I knew I was dead meat.

Once I got back in a few minutes later I was happy to see the seething bol crusher dead at my feet. I had full HAM and was ready to move on. I searched the lair, found some eggs, and sampled a few huurton stalkers nearby.

When I don't crash, I am not really afraid of many critters on Dantooine as long as I am buffed.

Whenever I sampled last night, however, I always made sure I had my LVA equipped and my few specials, intimidate and COB close by.

I think I will like the combo of BE/Pikeman - but I have only been a BE for a night.

My first creature was a Vir Vur that was a CL 12 and had 5400 HAM sporting Dizzy, Stunning strike and had ranged attacks.

Good luck to ya!

Ehh, what ever works. I guess a good sweep would help with the running aspect of that too, if you don't miss and the lag is not too bad.

@antares: Well, that's disappointing. Anyway, the holo said Pike, so Pike it is. It still has a lot of advantages over pistoleer for defensive purposes.

@PhiGon: Congrats on your first sampling! Enjoy the profession -- it's become a lot more interesting following the last couple of patches. But you're going to find that you will have no chance to solo the creatures you'll be sampling from later on -- nobody can take on a nest of mutant rancors. The goal is to be able to make it as far as your speeder before you die.

I've mastered both. Pike isn't the best defensive meele profession but its good enough. You won't be able to solo enraged rancores at master pike but most of anything below that is not bad. Also helps a lot when you're out harvesting meat. Dammage mitigation dosen't do that much for you since most animals have a small dammage range.

If you are on Ahzia send me a tell for training in eithor.
