Thread: The Pike or the Baton That is the question

I use pikes for all my PvE and also against stormtroopers and bases. However for PvP I have to use my Teras Kasi in order to be effective (mainly hunt Jedi). I really wish it weren't that way because pikes are my favorite weapon. I don't use DOT's or I would use Pikes for PvP but I really don't like DOT weapons. If you want to try out fencer you should. When the combat balance comes out I think all combat is gonna change so it's hard to say what will be better. It's supposed to balanced, so they say, so I guess it will mainly rely on your style of playing. Till then just have fun with whatever profession you decide. If fencer interests you then I say go for it.

I am completely torn, i PvE and PvP alot however as a master brawler/master pike/master swords I find i am only using pike to stick the DoT then turning to swordsman for the accuracy speed and mind dmg. Swords is also my main PvE profession. So my question is.. Do I switch to fencer or keep pikeman? all the above points clearly show that fencer would be better for me as swords is all i use in PvE, but pikeman is just so dang addictive! So I am here to ask all of my fellow pikemen (not going to post this on the fencer forums as they are all whiners and will flame me for using DoT ) What do I take? Do you expect pikeman to be brought to par with other professions ? Should I go fencer and hope they dont get nefed into oblivion? Keep Nothing back, all i ask is that u dont get mad for me starting yet another template flooding thread on our forums (i normally try to stick it into the bottom of an already made template thread but I would like my own for this one )

I just got my master in pikeman last night and personally i can't see myself dropping it - ever! But my template is a bit different from yours : Master Brawler / Master TKA/ Master Pike , i do believe that Pikeman are going to get a new pike in relation to the Swordsman's Scythe.

I am working on a couple of columns of fencer because occasionally you come across a nasty beasty that has 100% resistances to kinetic, blast & electric damage ( eg. Kunga Rockshapers)- so everything we could bloody do! So having a stun baton provides a 4th combat angle for me at least.

I PvP & PvE also, but i think i am leaning more towards PvE these days, i don't have any experience of swordsman but when i go hunting with my best buddy who is master brawler / master fencer / master swordsman we really clean up very quickly.

What is swordsman like for fighting groups? I am in love with the pike's area KD & area attack 2. Also for single creatures using the DoT + leg hit sorts them out sharpish. I imagine you would use pike for fighting groups and swords for taking on individuals.

I'm going to ask my brawler/fencer/swords mate and see what he thinks about the sword + pike combo

If you don't mind all your sp being spent purely on brawler profs then you could do what i am doing and hold the 3 masters + still have enough points to go 3440 in fencer - you get almost all of the def bonuses bar only what the master can give you.

I think its good to specialise

I just wrote in another thread about how i am dropping fencer, eventhough the defences are great, but I beleive the prof has already been nerfed. It was demonstrated to me the other night when a TKM and me were sparring (him without armor), and i could never hit him for more than 130 points of damage with a baton! He was routinely tagging me for 300+ per hit. I should have been doing much more damage than that.

If possible I would def recommend getting the meditative tree of TKA at least.

Dodge food doesnt make you "Dodge" it just increases the rate at which targets "miss" you. /endtrolling

I was pikeman rifleman for a long time and regularly hunted NSs with pikeman however the fact i couldnt touch elders with pike (they tear u apart if you have rifle equiped) caused me to drop it because i wanted to fight high end mobs and just fancied a change in set up. TRUE pikeman dont care about the dots but do appreciate them, however most of the pikeman i see now went pikeman for the dots I have some really good dot pikes but i looted them all myself or a jedi friend of mine looted them so i felt i had earned the right to use them rather than someone who had just gone out and bought them (best one is mindpoison 286 84% (came of an NS spellweaver)).

Its unfortunate pikeman often need dots to win however i think that more then general state of the GCW than pikeman itself. Lets hope the combat nerf i mean balance fixes it (it better not be a nerf for pikeman cos otherwise you guys should kick the devs asses)

If they *nerf* Pike any more then we will be challenged by Artisians and Dancers next...and it will be a tough fight.

This is fairly helpfull to my desicsion. ANd yes the pike area attacks are insane but again swordsman is just to powerful even stronger area attacks! however ask you rfriend if he is very powerful solo PvE and in pvp as that is pretty much teh exact template im deciding on. very helpful thanks. I couldnt ever see myself dropping it either but with swordsman as one of my options im pretty much forced to go with it in EVRY instance, highend ,obs, multiple enemy caves, even PvP it is stronger
