Ok, here is a question I have not seen on this thread. What race is the best race to handle to Pikeman profession?
I choose Bothan, originally because of my desire to master Scout / Ranger. Now I am almost master ranger, and kinda wish I had choosen a different race. Perhaps something a bit tougher, or intimidating.
I do however look pretty cool tearing all those huge critters apart with my little donkey faced man. Once we put on some composite armor we all look the same anyway! The one thing I do get as master ranger, is that if I don't want to fight something I can normally avoid it. Very few aggro critters target me. At lower levels this helped, now I don't really know if it is worth the +15 Camo.
Obviously some races (like mine, and Twi'lek) don't have combat bonuses, while others do. I am very curious if any Rodian's have noticed the 2 handed melee accuracy helping them out. How about the Wookiee's amongst us? Are you holding your own? I have seen several Wookiee pikemenin game and they seem to be doing well. What about you Transdoshan's in the Pikeman game. Does the lack of boots harm you?
To feed the discussion here are the special features for the races:
Bothan:
Human:
Mon Cal:
Rodian
Transdoshan
Twi'lek
Wookiee
Zabrak
Enjoy!

I think it depends on what your other skill points go towards to some extent. Purely from a pike point of view you'd probably want to take a race with some innate defences to bolster our pitiful ones. I went zabrakfor equilibrium which has saved me countless times. It's horses for courses though really , i think a lot people choose races for aesthetic reasons.

As a Wookiee, I can certainly hold my own in most situations. However, I could arguably do better as another species.
The biggest problems for Wookiees are obviously armor and clothing. The new armor is good, but is designed to have an armor hole similar to Trandoshans' glove and boot problems. The reverse-armor-hole helped that for awhile, but lately I've been taking a lot more hits that never touch my armor. The design of the armor itself also proves problematic. The chest/helmet is one piece. This results not only in some massive decay rates, but pretty much guarantees you're going to be slapped with high mind encumbrance. Wookiee mind secondaries aren't bad, but they're not great either. Even with brandy, ahrisa, and canape my mind suffers.
The simple lack of items (both clothing and armor) creates issues with armor/clothing mods. I believe the only BE clothing that can be worn with Wookiee armor is a bandolier. We can also wear gloves and a belt, but neither take BE enhancements as far as I know. For armor attachments, we have a theoretical maximum of 16 slots, all in high-decay items. No mabari belts here. It makes high-end AAs a pretty poor investment.
Regarding innate skills, the only one that's remotely useful to a pikeman is /wookieeroar, and that's not very useful. It's an area intimidate you can use once every 5 minutes, but is only about as good as intimidate1. Still handy at times, but nothing great. On the plus side, our extra HAM makes fighting unbuffed a bit more viable for a Wookiee than for other species. Not a huge concern now, but it did help out early on.
Any race can do well as a pikeman, if you ask me. Some just have different handicaps to overcome than others. In the end, I just feel it's more fun to play a race because you like it than because it'll help you fight.
