Thread: Combined Template References (emphasis on Pikeman defense)

Fellow Pikemen! Itook some time today and thought I would contribute to the forum a bit. I always see these post about templates and i saw some with breakdowns of the the various State mods of the various professions, but not combined as many of us have multiple stacked professions. So I combined popular combo's of professions and compared their stats. I also put a definition of what these states do when you have them stuck on you. (mostly for the newbs) But my hope was that this could be a good post to use as a reference to come back to later on. I did this mostly for reference for myself, hope you find it useful. Please let me know if you see an error in anything or would like to add anything. I focused on a template from a PIKEMAN point of view and omitted information that didnt concern defense.

Some further explaination of states:


Blind: Your opponent won’t hit you as often because his accuracy will be reduced, and he also won’t be able to heal others.


Dizzy: This will give your opponent a hard time if he tries to change posture or if you force him with a posture change attack like lunge or a knockdown.


Intimidated: Your opponent’s damage output is reduced by half. As well, he will lose his dodge/counterattack/block bonuses, nullifying even Fencer Center of Being.

-Defense Vs posture change: There are 2 kinds, posture change up, or posture change down; most commonly used (99.9% of the time) is posture change down. Therefore, I recommend getting that posture change (down) defense high. Only Riflemen use posture change (up), and it’s only a defence against other Riflemen who are prone. As such, posture-up moves will hardly ever be used on you. They don’t matter.


-Combat Equilibrium: This is a skill Teras Kasi and Fencers get that will automatically restore you to standing after a posture-down without flopping you on your back if you’re dizzy. If you have this high, anyone trying to dizzy/lunge to KD will be frustrated because you’ll get up every time laughing.


-Melee toughness: This is a damage-reducing skill only melee professions get, and it only applies when a melee fighter fights another melee fighter. The amount of toughness you get is the amount your skill with your weapon of that type gives you. Toughness is a straight % reduction of damage done to you in combat. The drawback is this only applies to attacks from other melee professions.


Most ranged fighters will “kite” melees. However, as you become more experienced, it will be more difficult to kite you. A good melee can keep ranged people close by.



-Dodge/Block/Counterattack: These defences will kick in after your melee or ranged defences has failed, and your opponent hits you. They give a chance to avoid damage. They only work if you equip a weapon that is from the profession that gives the skill. For example you will only dodge if you’re holding a pistol or one-hand melee weapon, or block using a pole-arm or rifle, or counterattack using a carbine or two-hand melee weapon.


Dodge/counterattack : will prevent 100% of dmg but status attacks will still come trough
Block : will prevent 50% of dmg and status attacks will come trough


Important to know you can stack these up to 125 by using there melee or ranged clones i.e. pistoleer dodge stacks with fencer dodge, pikeman block stacks with rifleman block, swordsman counterattack stacks with carbine counterattack.

You forgot the most Important state..


Stun - when stunned your damage is dropped another 20-25% and your defenses take a heavy hit.


Intim + Stun = Broken Fencer CoB.. heh

Also, Melee and Ranged Defense are pretty much inherent evasion. The higher they are, the harder it is to hit you.

def vs kd-70, def vs dizzy-80, def vs stun-90, def vs blind-60, melee mit. 3, range def 25, melee def 30.


plus 2000-3000 heals, cure 600+ poison, cure states, cure 450+ fire, first aid. Works good in pvp and high end pvp.


good guide though, very informitive and pardon all my edits

You've got a fairly nice set of defenses there but your ranged and melee defense aren't worth jack, and those, IMO, are about as important as the state defenses. That, and no master brawler = no lunge2, no intimidate2, and no warcry2.


My pikeman's Master Pikeman/Master Brawler/TKA 4003/Fencer 4440/Medic 0040. +80 Defense vs Dizzy, +70 Defense vs KD, +80 Defense vs Posture Change, +60 Defense vs Blind, +50 Defense vs Stun, +129 Ranged Defense and +151 Melee Defense. I'm able to use Stim D's (Actually, I use 40 Med Use Stim-E's that some people on Lowca make...1100 power, so I can heal for over 2k with my +25 Injury/Wound Treatment Pants). Not having doc abilities myself hurts some, but only really if I'm PvPing alone, which I don't do much...and we've got some pretty good hybrid Melee Doctors in my guild to PvP with, so its all good.



Heh....random template idea that I wouldn't recommend....but hey, if you want to get pure, crazy defensive insanity....Master Pikeman/Master Brawler/Fencer 4440/TKA 0100/Pistoleer 0040. 120 Defense vs Dizzy, 120 Defense vs KD, 110 Defense vs Posture Change, 110 Defense vs Blind, 90 Defense vs Stun, 106 Melee Defense, 101 Ranged Defense. No Medic whatsoever, though....
