Thread: What skill mix do you play with pikeman?

After seeing so many negative comments about Pikemen, I was curious what skill tree people follow to augment the lackluster abilities of pikemen. To start....


I of course use the Creature Handler(4-4-3-4) and Chef(0-0-2-2) skills to augment Pikemen (4-3-4-3). The difference these skills make in PvE is astounding. If you have never used Tatooine Sunburns before, then you are really missing out. Just drinking one of these is enough to keep your Health bar from being drained by the HAM costs of our weapons. Now action and mind still go down, but it goes down much, much slower than it would without the tatooine sunburn. I know I have posted this before, but it is such an immense help for me, that I can't live without it. For 95% of my fights, I use tatooine sunburns. A master pikemen that I had a friendly duel with the other day was using tatooine sunburns by the crate. To be able to make the tatooine sunburns only requires a (0-0-2-0) in chef.


Creature Handler.....probably one of the most fun, and overpowered classes in the game. Since melee chars can't tank worth anything, your only other option is to use pets or kill them faster than they kill you. I chose to use pets and it has made levelling quite enjoyable. Just the other night I was playing around on Lok with a few missions. I had hurt my Nym faction pretty badly, which is a bad thing to do on Lok. So I was doing some missions to patch up my faction a bit. Well I was about 50m out of the city when i saw a lonely red dot on the screen appear. I was skirting most red dots and well......this little red dot turned out to be an enraged Kimogila. If you have never fought these before, then they are BIG. They are about the same size as a krayt dragon and hit hard. However, unlike a krayt dragon.....no armor, only 17k HAM, and lower resists. I figured I was close enough to town, that I would just attempt it. I pulled out 2expendable pets (CL18 Gronda and a CL24 kliknik warrior I think) and went in to do battle. Needless to say, I won. Using both action bleeds, a tatooine sunburn, a gronda, and leg hit2(I didn't have 3 at that time), I was able to take him down. I onlyput down the Gronda because the kliknik didn't participate in the fight for some reason. Very FUN!!!


Course I am thinking about hitting Master Pikemen and then getting rid of most of my creatures. It could be quite entertaining to do TKA and Pikemen. If the TKA can actually do dizzy, stun, and blind quick enough, it could actually be entertaining to finish a fight with Polearm Hit 3. Hmmmmm. Couple that with toughness and defense from both skill trees and it could be even more entertaining. Ahhh, the possibilities. Sorry about the rambling, but there are always ways around our inherent weaknesses. Though we had a KD nerf, I still think weshould be more of a class than just KDspammers. It takes little strategy to KD your opponent over and over again, even though it made PvE quite fun.


Anyways, hang in there. Even though other classes may be stronger than us, we can still take a chunk out of anyone's day.

my tactic is just like your...in that i use pike and CH...but instead of chef i am a doctor...you use food...i use buffs..same basic idea...different method...i feel doctor is great compliment to pikeman!

Pikeman, CH, pistoleer. Pikeman cuz I likes to hit stuff wit a steek. CH cuz pets can damage those cowardly runners when I can't. Pistoleer 0010 so i can supress, bleed and disarm my opponents so at least they know they been in a fight.

Im not doing anything to help the pikeman prof in that kind of way couse im hopeing they will fix us some time in the future so this wont be needed... im going Master Pikeman/Master Ranger/Novice Medic...

any trapping and medic skills are certainly good to have as a pikeman, i am going to get master TKA and fencer also so i will have enuff defense to make up for our lack of it, and then some. and i also think meditate would be a huge bonus to any pikeman's arsenal.
