After having a discussion on my server forums about a specific player/bh relying on uber dots(500+). It got me thinking, was the whole dot removal thing worth it? Was it the right thing to do?

Discuss.

well considering that dots ( or the lack of them ) impact pike more than any other proff, I say I want em back. With a lack of quality pikes nowdays we are seriously lacking.

It should never have been like that. Since when was pikeman a DoT profession? Doesn't that show you something is wrong. Instead of wanting to rely on cheap DoTs that have nothing to do with the profession, why not instead talk about having post-CU pikes made better?

I still don't see why one patch couldn't have added a 90% pvp reduction to DOTs, reduced armor resist, and scale back buffs to be comparable to entertainer buffs. Their use of these "much needed changes" is like using Al Qaida as need to go into Iraq.

They were planning to make SWG into EQ3 a long time ago and those changes were just the excuses. The biggest difference I see is instead of playing 5 accounts most of the day I'm playing 1 for half an hour a day and even my last account stays on cancelled status.

Judging from the drop in subscription numbers right after the revamp I'd probably say, no, it wasn't the right move. They alienated a lot of people to get into the business of high-turnover MMOGs. What made SWG unique from the other MMOGs is gone now, and some people find it surprising that fact even matters to a lot of players.

I, for one, am not going to subscribe to a _____ product like New Coke...I mean, post-revamp SWG, when there are many clones of the game out there with competent development, actual in-game GMs, and human customer service. What SOE doesn't seem to understand is that, even with a monumental franchise name like Star Wars, they just don't have the product or support to compete in the MMOG business now.

Incompetent development team? ...check!
Inadequate server hardware? ...check!
Raph Koster? ...check!
SWG has gone gold!

I directed my comment to what this forum topic was about...DOTS, do not jump on me for off-topic stuff, especially when I have commented on the topic you try to criticize me for.

Calm down. I wasn't saying anything about off-topic, I don't know where you got that idea. I was replying to your statement that you wanted DoTs back because current pikes aren't that powerful. The solution, as I said, isn't at all to bring back DoTs, but to fix the pikes. DoTs should never have been what they were to the pikeman profession. Nothing off-topic - just breathe and relax.

Pikeman isn't a damage dealing profession, we're tanking. Our weapons arn't supposed to be about damage, *but* we have close to 900 damage from a standard crafted VL, which isn't too shaby. Throw on a damage pup and you'll be over 1000 dmg. Add in doc buffs and speed tapes you'll cap on speed. That's higher damage than any lightsaber and it fits in with the damage progressions between professions.

If you're looking for more damage, you'll need to pick up swordsman for it.
