Thread: A Question on Pikeman

So I was at a weaponsmith vender the other day and found out that in one of the patches the devs apparently "fixed" pikeman. The aim mods on the weapons seemed much better and as I took a look at the skill tree, I see some more aim mods. KEWLNESS. I always wanted to do pikeman cuz the weapons just look awsome. I'm a big melee fan myself and pikeman has been the one melee proffesion I didn't play with yet.

So now I"m 4/0/1/4 in pikeman and dueled a tkm to test out the new skills. I was wearing 80% kin comp armor and was buffed and on two shots of brandy. Honestly it was a long battle, although in the end I got owned. He instantly kd/dizz'd me and went to town on my mind. I got up, kd/dizz'd him and did the same. This went back and forth a bit and in the end I was incapped by those nasty mind hits. But honestly I lost mainly because I missed at least 70% of the time. I'm using a vibro lance with -14 aim mods and still can't hit this guy. When we were done most of his dmg was from ham costs. I was wondering, how can I improve on this? Do pikeman stand a chance agaisn't other melee classes in pvp? I mean I love the class so far and I don't normally have a problem missing normal mobs. How do the master pikeman feel about their aim in pvp? Do you feel that the class has been fixed?

If the TKA is buffed, you'll have quite a problem. If not, however, aim for the action pool. Bleed it, poison it/fire it/disease it (if you have an appropriate NS weapon) and use actionhit2 or actionhit3, depending on your speed. TKAs use a lot of action using specials, and TONS of HAM if they're using VKs. Just hope said TKA isn't a medic. :/

The thing about your post is, you don't tell us if the TK was wearing armor or not.

If the guy was wearing armor as well, why go for the vibro lance? You should've used the basic lance so you would at least rack up some dps.

If he wasn't wearing armor, again, why are you using the vibro lance? Why not go with the long vibro axe?

If you found your main problem to be the inaccuracy, you should switch to the basic lance in duels (I do).

Also, go buy some canape. You can eat 3 which each give you 200+ to focus and willpower. Its good stuff against riflemen and BHs and their ilk who are all about the headshots.

2 shots of brandy + 3 spots of canape = Mind goodness (you can add muon on top of that, woot!!)

He wasn't buffed and I was on two shots of brandy. I was using the vibro lance because it has better aim mods than the vibro axe. I dont' htink I would have hit him at all with -31 aim mods.

Ok, he wasn't wearing armor and he wasn't buffed?!?

You were buffed wearing a set of 80% composite.

I'm sorry but even at your level you should've had no problem beating this guy. Auto-attack with a basic lance would've done the trick just fine.

Even if he was an uber defense stacker you should've been able to win.

For shame!

Legwand, it's too bad you are not on my server. I can use lessons in PVP.

For some reason the last time I pvp'ed scared me enough to never do it again. But i was not Master Doc at that time. The guy set me on fire and diseased me right after I just spent 10k on a set of Doc buffs. I was so dead a doc had to revive me.

I have yet to pvp now that I got a few NS lances and Master Doc. Any other tips for PVP? Thanks.

Well Gunman did start a "Pikeman PvP" thread a while ago and was going to sticky a finished draft.

In the meantime, all I can say is if you are a Doctor/Pikeman, you're not going to be the best PvP'er out there. If you lose, don't be upset, its going to happen.

If you're going to duel, first you have to know what the opponent is going to attack you with. If hes going to hit you with some kinetic weapon, strap on the ubese armor. If its a ranged opponent, go with the composite. The reason to bother switching is because of the 3-400 difference in HAM costs between the two. Why wear the set of comp if a set of ubese will do?

For weapons, it depends on what the other guy has on. If hes not wearing any armor, go with the LVA. If its the ubese armor, go with the VL. If hes decked out in composite, best to use the basic lance (solely for the dps).

For some tactics, try to start off with an intimidate. That 50% decrease in the opponents damage is vital in PvP. After that you can try a warcry to get the delay. Spin attacks to dizzy followed by a KD are always good. If the guy kites, use that lunge. Lunge is the most important attack when fighting a ranged guy. I think thats about it.

Of course the smart stuff like being buffed and spiced and fed. As well make sure you have enough stims in your inventory. Nothing worse (as I found out again tonight) then having a fight seemingly in the bag, only to run out of stims and get dead. (disease+poison+bleeding+no stims = me dead).

I'm sure other people have more. I'll post more if I think of it.

My main concern are the people who will kite... Whatever the case is, afterI get back from my vacation,I will start a new thread on PVP and pike. I think we need to discuss thisafter the upcoming combat balance anyways as a Pike Community.
