Ok, here's the deal.

I haven't played in, 8+ months, easily.

I reactivated my account last night.

Logged in with my Master Pikeman, 2Trees in Fencer and 2 Trees in TKA

and was TOTALLY CONFUSED.

I read through the combat revamp, but I STILL don't understand the new tree systems.

If I'm to understand the new trees, my once beloved "Heavy damage but slow attacking" class is now not only the weakest damaging class, but nothign but a tank?

And were expected to mix trees?

I have a jedi, who was almost to the knight trials (I had to master 31 profs to get Jedi back before the changes), and now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just use my respec to dump all my combat profs and convert my main into a crafter of some kind, shipwright maybe..

Can someone help me understand this new system?

IF I want my pikeman to do DAMAGE, do I have to dual class swordsman/pikeman? Is it impossible for pikes to do damage now?
I swear if I was any more confused at this moment, I'd be.... well really bloody confused.

Thanks guys and gals.

Actually, TKA or maybe Fencer is probably the weakest damaging melee class now. It's true that Pikeman is more tank then damage now but that doesn't mean that Pikeman is a low damage class. I'd say you need to pick a role and then run with it. If you do want to do more damage, then MPikes and M Swords would be a good way to go. You can also mix Pikeman with TKA and get a good tank.

You aren't exactly expected to mix trees. I've read posts from people enjoying themselves as say MTKA and MRifles for example. It's just that since they upped the amount of general stats that melee professions get, they made it so that melee professions benefit from being paired with other melee professions, and ranged professions benefit from being paired with other ranged professions. If I were you, and especially if you had a good pre CU pike or two, I'd give pikes a few shots mixed with other melee professions. You'll have a few weeks of respeccing to play around with your skills. Examine the new combat roles of all the professions, and go from there. If it comes down to it, then you can always respec into a merchant class during the last few days of your respec period. Experiment a little, find out what you enjoy, and run with it.
