Thread: Pikeman??? broken???

I dont understand how people say pikeman is broken, im a master pikeman and a wookiee at that and im able to tank more enemys then most of my friends can with buffs that is. i know we are extremely underpowered in PVP and our looted weapons with DOT's need balance but really we are not that bad off.

Love how you just contradicted yourself. The mere fact that we need DoT weapons and dabbling into other professions to even count in PvP as anything other than fodder is enough of proof that we''re broken. If you bother checking the forum more thoroughly you will come across some very interesting posts with some really nice numbers which display the glory of the Pikeman's borkedness in its full glory. While we are not crap, we're not good either, and as you might guess it takes zero skill to PvP with a Pikeman, just change DoT weapons (whose DoTs actually stack) and let them tick until the enemy is dead hoping you'll be standing in the end. Not that there is much skill in the TKAs KD/Dizzy, Head Hit, Head Hit, Head Hit, rinse and repeat but we don't have half the perks TKAs have to at least feel nice in our lack of tactical versatility.

Not broken, but it used to be that way. Just generally mediocre now. Not the best at anything.

try and make 2 specials without buffs....start geting used to it too cus buffs will be nerfed

And if they don't fix pike when they nerf buffs, were all skrewed. This profession will die.

and where the hell do the devs git the idea to nerf buffs. worsed idea since makingthe NSEL impposible to get. cmon people need buffs to do anything in game. ah when they do that i hope SE will be out so i can just spend my time in space. /sigh

come on, you've been around long enough to remember before everyone and their mom ran around unbuffed....the game was actaully challenging then....

I remember when everyone PvPed unbuffed too...that was fun.

Agree, we aren't broken. What people seem to forget is balance isn't everyone being equal. Its having diversity, with strengths and weakness.

I can only speak for melee, as hate leveling ranged professions, but from my experiences (I've been them all) things are in this order (without looted weapons).

PvE
---
1) Swordsman/Pikeman (all just down to resists on which one is best which mob)
2) TK (we easily out damage them)
3) Fencers (lol, seriously I had masters wanting to drop the profession once they've seen a pikeman in PvE).

PvP
---
1) Fencers (does anyone hit them?)

Everyone else is about even in PvP (melee wise and without looted weapons). You just have to play against the other professions weaknesses and not just stand (rooted) spamming the same special no matter what. The only profession I have problems with in PvP is Fencer, everyone else is balanced on tactics. Unbuffed PvP is simply down to who lands a KD/Dizzy/Intimidate/Stun combination first, which is lame no matter what profession you are. Wear amour and unless an exploited (intentional or not) bugged special (unarmed combo 2 & one handed scatter hit 2) isn't used TK's (and fencers even) don't do a great deal of damage. Fencers have the advantage because they are near impossible to hit, which usually results in ham burn out more than them actually doing the damage (not just a pikeman issue). The only thing that we do need is to hit the speed cap, but we aren't the only profession with that issue...swordsmen too. Which considering we are both the best in PvE, I see as a payoff. If you find one of your stats is a weakness, migrate it to be stronger!! So you will find if anything is broken in PvP, its some specials with in the TK and Fencer trees, which pretty much ignore armour and other defences.

Aren't they doing away with the ability to buff secondaries? I think I read that somewhere. If that's the case, Chef's and Smuggler'swill be making a LOT more money on food and spice. I don't guess it really matters to me if they do nerf buffs...as long as the devs fix our HAM issues when they do.

Very much doubt they are removing secondary buffs, at least for mind. They would have to revamp musicians.

From what I read (if I remember correctly) they are just going to reduce the effectiveness of buffs in general. Maybe just bring them in line with entertainer buffs, where the buff just doubles (at master) your stats. Who knows, it probably won't work as intended anyway. Fixes are just vapourware these days.

I wish more people would listen to Kasteu. You are one open-minded individual and I'm glad to finally see a master pikeman who isn't ranting and raving about how great everyone else is and how broken pikeman is. I have been a pikeman at one time and loved it,. I wish more people would just sit back and enjoy what they have. I agree every prof tends to have it's strengths and weaknesses. Much to everyone's disbelief TKA and Fencer aren't the solve all melee profs. It's all about playing style and what you do with what you have.

Well, along these lines I dueled a buddy of mine today, I am a master pike since day one playing, and i am a 3,2,3,4 fencer..


He is a TKM, pistoleer, with no armor on...and i was using 500 dam axes and DOT lances on him...and switching to stun baton and ganderfini (sp?) baton...


After looking back at the combat log...(after i got dropped) he even told me that i should just put the pikes away after theDOT hitand use the fencer weapons because i was hitting him for "24, 30, 35..." points of damage each hit with my axe!! With the Fencer weapons I was doing about a "100" or so per hit...and they are generic weapons that cost about 40k ...nothing special...


Something is definitely hosed with PIKE when you just flat out cannot damage a player in combat. One is forced to hit with DOT and then switch to Fencer weapons to keep up... just my thoughts... I think it is a disgrace and embarrasing for pikemen.


I refuse to accept that an unarmed person can do more damage than a master wielding an axe...
