Thread: Yay, master pikeman. Now what ranged profession to balance it with?

I am keeping master braweler and master pikeman.

Looking at what ranged profession would go good with it. (especially with the cu coming)

I am looking for a good mix of abilities. Thinking carbiner, but always hated carbines and to apoint rifles when I did ranged.

May go smuggler (just so I can slice those dang locked containers in the caves and such)

I choose Carbineer, although that probably wasn't the smartest thing to do. After CU, there's no telling what to do - so since you'll be able to reassign skill points (I think that's in the latest update thread), I'd just pick something easy to grind. And that you'll enjoy, then after CU you can drop it and pick whatever you'd like.

Well as it stands my template is as follows:
Master brawler (keeping)
master pikeman (keeping)
Marksman -/-/-/4
Master Medic

got 4 pts left, so will be dropping medic to get it... with 7pts left over for force melee speed and one other tree (most likely melee acuracy)


Looking at maybe picking up rifleman but it's a bit slow speedwise without spending too much on tapes. Pistols might work.

I went to rifleman and so far i love it, started yesterday and im already 1/0/0/3 <- cap ur combat XP


also for the grind go get a good speed sliced DL20a. . . .its pwns.. . . i gonna use it for my entire grind b/cause it has good speed and VERY good damage. . . . .

Sorry to go off topic but I just wanted to say I love your sig! Best explanation for playing a female toon I've ever read

To the original question, I think it's a matter of preference. I've done all the ranged professions and carbineer always just appealed to me. Pistoleer was always fast and furious but lower damage. Rifleman is massive damage, extremely slow. Carbineer always just felt like a nice mixture in the middle/balanced.

Problem I have with carbineer was the ham costs... oh wait I'm a pikeman :-P

Might try Carbineer, like pike they get lots of state attacks.

Hope I get in the CU beta, so I can see where I need to go (blue froggies gonna get worked out hard)

Might grind out some skills in marksman (maybe actually master it instead of medic and then reassign the points on revamp)

I agree, Rifleman complements Pikeman better than Carbineer imo.

Vaca, see if you can get your hands on a nice speed-sliced Laser Rifle for grinding. You can probably get 5.4 speed, 400+ max damage Medium AP without hardly trying. DTL20's can be nice but dont pack a lot of punch.

rifleman. A nice compliment to pikeman at least till CU.


I hve done both pike/rifle ane pike/carbine . Carbine is just flt dissapointing when they going gets tough.

thinking about smuggler, after all it's a nice second profession. And well some pistol skills, since pikeman is my preference.

True not an elite combat profession, but still a fun one I did enjoy.

I recommend rifleman, since they both use block, you can live a bit longer since rifles has teh worst def I've seen...

Well, not looking for a true ranged uber profession.

And smuggler fits what I need, all I need is soemthing to reach out and hit them with.

May do carbineer with the cu for a ranged dizzy and knockdown.

Depends a lot on the cu really. But smuggler is a fun profession I enjoyed, and the specials are really what I need. If I can get them on the ground long enough for me to run up and beat them into said ground I'll be happy :-P
