i have mastered all of the melee professions except pikeman (which i am 4314 in now) and to be totally honest it has to be the worst melee profession. its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, but it needs a revamp badly. just my 2 cents.

Use whatever u want to get to novice, I suggest a basic lance with good damage slice, but when u get to novice pike, only use speed sliced vibro lances till u at least do all of the speed tree. I waited till master to use the long vibro axe and it pays off cause its slow as hell and crappy range mods. Luck.

Pikeman is the first elite melee class i've done ( i know how on earth could i've not done TKA). Actually, i find it fun. It beats the hell out of running away from stuff that aggro's you like i had to with pistoleer. But i bought a nice set of comp armor and never do any real fighting unless i'm buff'd. Which is how alot of profs are now anyway. But yea, i used a VLA till i hit nov pikeman and went to a speed sliced VL which has vastly better range modifers so i can actually hit something. I was tanking pikets and grauls on dath for XP before then though, but i do like how i can do 900+ dmg with a regular swing at polearms 3
I might actually stick with pikeman.

Pikeman is good and bad at the same time, were weak compared to the other melee professions in a straight comparison but at the same time we can really shine in certain situations. One thing about being a Sentinel, good or bad, its a class with buckets of personality (and sometimes heartbreak).
