Thread: pikemen now.
But thanks to Nightsisters dropping poison/fire DoTs on their weapons we now have legions of FotM kiddies running around with LVAs.

man that's just sad.. so i assume they never came out with the fabled combat patch to balance combat out... or that the patch didn't really do anything

Nightsisters have been dropping those since day one, I really don't think that its the reason. I think the main reason you see so many more Pikeman now is the Force Melee skills. Now that you can get +12 speed/accuracy pikeman looks a lot more inviting ... we all know how much difference there is in a speed cap vs. 75 speed pikeman. Also a major difference with the new skills is the melee/accuracy force skills allow you to take templates like Master Swrods/Master Pike with force Combat 0044, and really get a HUGE advantage out of those force skills. Myabe its not so, but I think it has a lot to do with it.
I disagree... FotM was alot bigger when there wasn't a 5 sec weapon switch delay... That was before the force sensative combat stuff was really main stream.... I think the NS stuff became an issue when SOE dropped the NS force powers, and made all NS easy to solo, yes even elders for doc/swordsman.... This lead to a lot more primo pikes being out there... and in a PvP environement DoT's. especially strong ones, rule the game.... With the new delay and poison/disease buffs.... I think a lot less people are doing pike then before... My first elite combat profession was pike... never mastered, but finally came back b/c well I wanted to try it out... With my goal of master politician I couldn't keep my cabrine king status, so PIKE it is... And here I am loving the profession, and I haven't even PvP'd with it once yet....

As c00kie already responded, this whole FotM thing began pre-force skills. During the 4-5 months that Nightsisters were trivial to kill, the number of DoT weapons available exploded. In small numbers they were never a problem, once any novice brawler with composite could take down a Nightsister they became way too commonplace. People would get 7 or 8 high strenght DoTs, stack them, and have an I win button. Whoever died to that method would go out, kill their own bunch of nightsisters, and come back with their I win button.
That mentality persists, despite the (easily avoided) timer and resist buffs. The ultimate pvp template is now whatever class can use the strongest DoT, and unfortunately that's often us.
